Charcoal at FW Store?

I was able to find out that the prices in the stores are exactly the same as the DVC delivery prices. They don't want us to buy something for one price in one location and a different price elsewhere. This was according to the store manager on duty. She even gave me the 3 pages of prices for everything grocery related.

Thank you for taking the time to find out.

I called WDW yesterday & asked to be connected to the Meadow Trading Post and got a central ordering person. She said she could look up prices for me from the master price list. I asked her if this would include the prices at FW, and she said yes, all WDW stores. So this backs up what you were told. She said a bag of charcoal is $8.99, a pack of hot dogs $5.99, pack of hot dog rolls $2.99, and half gallon of milk $2.99. I checked the DVC list for BLT, and the prices are within pennies. The only think I couldn't find on the BLT list was the charcoal.

We are planning to pack in our checked luggage, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, granola bars, microwave popcorn, jiffy pop popcorn, pasta, mac & cheese, graham crackers, marshmallows, hershey bars, snacks, bagels, cookies and crackers. I figure with the money we will save by bringing these items from home, buying a few at FW won't be that bad.

But don't forget what the airlines charge for a checked bag -- $25 each way, when we flew Delta in February.

If you pack one less checked bag, you'd save $50, much more than the cost of a grocery shopping service.

They get you coming and going!

Thanks for reminding people that some airlines charge per checked bag. However, we are flying SW, so no charge for up to two checked bags per person. So for us, buying items at our local market and checking them in our luggage is better than a grocery service. We now only have to buy a few items at FW.

A few years back, I packed some perishables (string cheese, yogurt) in my checked luggage is a cooler bag with cool packs. This was a very small amount, no bigger than a lunch bag. We were staying at POP and I wanted some small snacks for my son (toodler at the time). Has anyone transported any more substantial cold food items in their checked luggage? When flying soutwest, 2 checked bags are free...so it really seems easier to check much of your food items.

This past summer, staying at BC, I packed a box of wine (triple bagged!) and lots of dry food stuff. It worked great. I just made sure to spread the items out over several bags so I wouldn't exceed the weight limits. We will be going in 2011 and staying at the cabins (flying, no car). From Houston, southwest is the best airline to take, I am considering using my checked luggage to transport much of our food. Delivery, taxi-run, or trading post for things that won't transport well (milk, bread, meats).

Of course, this method isn't fool-proof...the luggage could get lost or delayed and the food could spoil; or the items could break.

Just wondering what ya'll thought?
