Has anyone ever done the hot air balloon ride at DTD? If so, how did you like it? Is there usually a line? How long does the ride last? Trying to decide if we will have enough time to squeeze this in.

I rode it in February, at night. I think there was about a 25-minute wait. It was a bit breezy that night, so the balloon didn't go to his full height. And they were selling tickets just 4 or 5 at a time, because if the winds would have reached a certain speed, they wouldn't fly the balloon.

I think our ride was about 10 minutes or so.

I've always wanted to ride a hot air balloon, and this was my first experience. My husband has a fear of rides that dangle or hang, so I was very surprised that he rode this. At night, we had fortunate timing and could see the fireworks.

It was quite an experience, and I found myself gripping the handrail the entire time. If it's a bit breezy, you will feel the balloon swaying a bit. The space where you stand is just about wide enough for one or two people. The center of the balloon floor is just a gaping hole through which you can look down.

It is really neat. My wife and I did it in February. We waited about 15-20 minutes in the morning. Really neat views of the area.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like a lot of fun. I hadn't thought about riding it at night. We were thinking doing it during the daytime. However, I'm sure the view at night is very cool. Might have to try that instead!

Does anyone think the name is extremely misleading? I thought it meant you would go up in the balloon with characters. :rotfl2:

Since I have been lucky enough to fly over Baton Rouge in a real hot air balloon for free, I'll probably never pay for this unless prompted by someone else, or if it's during the fireworks or something.

Yes. The name is misleading. My initial impression about what the experience would be was the same as yours :)
