Characters and HEAT.

maroo - it looked like some rain showers were popping up in central MS just now on the radar. It all just sprang up in N MS and I am sitting here mad, thinking, why not pop up here?! ?And why is Jackson, TN 10 degrees cooler. Nashville got rain and storms yesterday so they are cooling off some.

Yep the people who are "friends" of the characters must have some hot moments. But they are like that naturally like that.

I only saw a few characters outdoors last week, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right places for them. We didn't run into them all the time like it seems we used to, so I thought they were now mainly in indoor "character containment areas" like inside at Toontown Fair and at character meals.

The indoor character areas seem to work quite well -- folks can wait in an orderly fashion without clogging the pathways in the parks, characters are in a climate controlled area, and kids can visit with several in a short amount of time.

I saw peter pan, wendy, snow white, pluto and goofy last week. I saw Goofy in MK and AK and pluto was only in AK. The others were in Epcot and MK.

Of course the fairies and princesses were inside. 75 minute wait to see tink so we skipped it!

I remember on my first trip to WDW a character was taken ill during the parade - he started wobbling around and a cast member had to help him.

Standing around and being hot is one thing but being in the parade must be sooooo much worse!!

Oh they're out, but Disney does a great job at keeping them in the shade, so you may have walked right by.

well, like a PP said, you know people have to sweat in there! I can't imagine putting on a costume and feeling the "dampness"...:scared:

C'mon, surely Mickey & Co. take a bath every now and then :goodvibes I very much doubt that they all use the same costume! I mean, surely you've all seen Mickey's other clothes in his wardrobe at his house? ;)

I don't know what you all mean by people inside the characters, since all the characters are real and there's nobody "inside" them, but rest assured, all Disney costumes (such as those used for attractions, in restaurants and yes, even in entertainment) are washed and laundered after each person uses them so NOBODY is wearing a costume that somebody just took off

1st- Stage makeup is a wonderful thing,,it does not melt, in fact you practically have to jackhammer it off at night.

2nd-My library has a mascot, the big wooly doggy had blue ice packs that fit into the chest/armpit/neck area. There is also a small fan that runs inside the head. That is also why the eyes, mouth and ears have to be mesh. Besides being able to see through them they allow the body heat that rises to the head to disapate.

Even in winter there are complaints of how hot that costume is.

We have two costumes but they get dry cleaned very very often. They also make sure it's out of the bag and hanging open whenever it's taken off.

Where did you see Tink? My dd4 is IN LOVE with her and I'm afraid we may have to make the effort to see her on our trip in Dec. I've never seen her in the parks (except for the fireworks!), so I didn't know it was possible. Is she in a pre-determined place or did you just get lucky and happen to cross paths with her? Thanks!

Tink and two of her friends (from the Tinker Bell movie) can be found in Pixie Hollow, which is located inside the Country Bounty store in Toon Town.

In the tent in Toon Town. Be at the rope drop about 15 minutes before Toon Town opens. There are usually 2 other fairies with her.

Thanks, berlioz70 and lovesdumbo! We will be sure to find her!

Hmm what I don't get is why WOULDN'T they use some type of cooling system on any of the mascot characters? I know of people with regular outdoor jobs who wear these cooling vests under their clothes...seems extremely simple and a smart, easy thing to do for the characters. Just like these:

http://www.glaciertek.com/

I remember dressing up in a giant Barney mascot style costume for Halloween one year. Even though it was night time this is the south, so it was probably about 80 outside. I walked in it for 2 hours and it wasn't terrible...but I can't imagine if there had been sun shining down on me or it had been 10 degrees warmer.

:scratchin Hmmm. I think I'm going to look into getting one of those vests for our trip in August....It certainly would make the weather more bearable.

Thanks, it is one of my tattoos! I also got another one that's Disney related last week. It's a star with a black Mickey head in it & the star looks like it's shooting off fireworks & pixie dust. There's a pic of that one on pg. 77 of the Disney Tattoo thread over in the Theme Parks Community. :wizard:

Cool, I did not even know there was a tat thread on here. I am going to have to check that out, sounds sweet.
