I was reading someone's thread about what characters they met and thought I subscribed to it but now can't find it. What is the characterpalooza? Is it just a special one time event? There were quite a few characters on the list that my DD would love to meet that I have never seen out at the parks. Thanks!

This happens every day at Hollywood studios (Animation Building), provided that there is no "early" Fantasmic show (i.e. earlier than 7:30 or so). Typically, you get three sets of characters - 4:50, 5:20, 5:50. Usually, the third set is identical to the first one.

Thanks for the info, just have a question we are going the first week of March 2012 and it shows that Fantasmic is on every night at 7pm will
Characterpalooza still be on and if so what times

thanks

Thanks so much! We typically leave DHS after lunch time for a nap and generally don't return because the shows are done and the attractions that our DD likes are few and we get them in during the morning hrs. Now I know we have something to stick around for :)

We went in there this past Sunday the 25th. They had Chip & Dale, Pocohantas & Miko and Hook & Smee all meeting in pairs. I was told that this is basically a crap shoot on who comes out. They see who wants to meet a few people and that is who comes out. The pool of characters are only those that are in the fantasmic show. To our surprise when we walked in they had Max in there also. I was told he was just hanging around in the back and decided to come out for a half hour or so.

Probably not, but you never know. I think t_catt's cut-off time of 7:30p is correct, so I don't like your chances.

This is an unadvertised event, not even shown on the park's Times Guides each day. As such, Disney has a lot of flexibility whether or not to do it. Your best bet is to ask at Guest Services once you are there.

Do note that it depends somewhat on the time of year, too... a 7:00 PM fantasmic show in February might still have this. That's pretty borderline.

So if Fantasmic is at 7:30 there is a good chance that Characterpalooza will happen?

Jacking this thread to ask a question :)

How busy can it get during this? If we stroll in there 5 minutes ahead of time, will we be fine?

Yes. Since it's not published anywhere, I bet less than 5 people out of any 100 there at the time even know about it. It is a terrific opportunity to knock out M&Gs with several, and sometimes rare, characters in a short time. Pop in about 4:40-4:45 and quietly ask a CM if they'll show up soon. As word gets out, it will get slightly more crowded over the course of the hour or two they are there.

Depends on the crowd level, but most of the characters come out all at once, so the crowd disperses to whichever character they want to see the most. It creates somewhat long lines for some, but in my experience it moves quickly. Basically what I'm trying to say is yes, you can stroll in 5 minutes ahead of time. You won't know what character will come out and where they will stand, so no one gets in a line until all the characters come out. (Except Sorcerer Mickey and whatever the current spotlight character is, I think it's Pooh right now)

And this is why I love the DIS. Would never have known about this without the help of you fine people :)

When we went in on Suday it was about 5:30 and the line for Pocahontas & Meeko was about 5 people. The line for Hook and Smee was the longest and it was about 10 -15 people

You are fine if you get there 5 minutes before it is supposed to start. But my suggestion is to be waiting in the area where a set of two characters generally are. It is the area overlooking where the Mickey greet is. If you line up in front of the railing that is next to an Imagineer's office, you will be able to see those two characters first. They stand at the top of the wheelchair accessible ramp. The past month or so it has been Hook and Smee and Pinnochio and Gepetto. Have fun!

thanks for this great thread; i have a quick question on Oct 18 they show the park closing at 7:00 and no Fantasmic i am wondering will they still have the characters come out around 4:00?

I would think so, but it's actually closer to 4:50.
