DD13 needs tan character shoes for her costume for the school musical. Our local dance store charges over $50. :scared1: I looked online and the online stores seem to charge about the same with shipping added. Any dance moms out there with a budget friendly solution?

We always used allaboutdance.com and discountdance.com
they always seemed to be the cheapest. I remember how shocked i used to be about the price of dance shoes. :scared1:

That's about average, in my experience.
I've actually had good luck buying them on Ebay for lower prices than that.
Here's one for $16 plus $5 shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Capezio-Jr-...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item746af6d0c7

One thing you have to pay attention to when you buy them (no matter WHERE you are buying) is the taps: they don't all automatically come with taps on them. You often have to purchase the taps separately and have them put on (there is a guy at my local drycleaner who will attach the taps for $12). If the shoes you are buying don't have taps, expect to pay about $15-$20 just for the taps, plus the charge to have them put on. Okay I just re-read your post and I see that it is for a musical, not for a tap class. All the stuff except the parts about the taps still apply.

Bummer.:upsidedow They are 11's. She's a lady's 6, but I had not thought of ebay. I'll have to do some browsing. Thanks for the info. I haven't had to buy dance shoes since they were little and they fit in Payless' line. They out grew them before they showed any wear. Now its a different story...

I would want to try them on prior to purchasing them. Our dance place has them and they are $75.00 with taps. Luckily when DD did the school play and needed character shoes we just took the taps off and sprayed them the right color, then put the taps back on for tap.

Bought mine from Amazon! (Who knew?)

I was surprised to see character shoes listed there - got the Capezios I wanted for about $30! (Knew this brand ran very small - I've always been a 7.5 shoe across virtually all brands, but had to get a 9 in these!) We have Prime, so got free shipping...

Good luck!
