Character Meals when you're not into characters

I've never been into the whole character experience. Even when I was a kid, I cried my eyes out when I met any of them. Now I just feel awkward and weird. My dilemma is that on my last day I want to make an ADR for the MK, and the one I'm looking at is the Crystal Palace. I'll be on a solo trip, so there won't be anyone else at the table for the characters to interact with. Do you think I could just avoid the characters by going up to the buffet when I see them coming? I'm not sure how the whole character meal thing works since I've never been to one.

It is just dh and myself and we don't have kids. I avoid character meals because it just makes me uncomfortable. If I was by myself, I would definitely book another restaurant. Sorry, just my opinion.

So many fabulous places to dine I would not book a restaurant where your uncomfortable. What about going to Trails ends breakfast or dinner buffet at Fort Wilderness and then into the park?

You're probably right. I also just realized how much more expensive those characters make it. I think I'll just go to Tony's instead.

Instead of Tony's I would choose Liberty Tree, much better food!

We're two adults, no kids, and are not interested in characters either. At CP, the handler came over to our table ahead of the character to let us know he was coming and to have our cameras ready. We told her we didn't care to meet him (I think it was Tigger) and so she just directed him to the next table instead. It was fine, Tigger just waved and kept walking.

That being said, that was the only instance we've ever had the handler come up beforehand. Normally they approach at the same time as the character, so we feel compelled to take a photo so as not to be awkward or rude. Then they move on.

If I were there solo, I agree that I'd probably avoid the character meals.

Sounds like a winner! :)

It will be a much more relaxing and enjoyable meal.

I went to Liberty Tree last time I went, and this year I vowed to try all new places. I've heard Tony's was rather 'meh', which is why I was thinking of Crystal Palace. :> But I might as well try it out for myself. Being close to the exit of the park will be a plus too, since my flight leaves at 6:30, and this will be my parting lunch on my way out.
