MY mom and I are going back to WDW in May. We have never taken the time to eat in a good restaurant before.

I wanted to make ressies in a few good restaurants including 2 character meals (the little girl in me would love to eat at the castle). Did anyone do it without kids?

Is it worth it?

Will I feel like an idiot?

Anyone can do it! It's not just for kids. Disney is for everyone. I, as an adult, went with my parents this past summer for a character breakfast. Plus I queue up and meet the characters too. There's nothing wrong with it at all and you will see PLENTY of other adults doing it. Have fun!

Even with the princesses and princes?

I always get shy with "face" characters lol

Do it, do it, do it! You won't regret it. I've done several character meals with all adults (though never a face character meal, I'll admit) and always had a blast. The costumed characters act up quite a bit more and are VERY interactive because they know they don't have to worry about small ones so much.

Hey PopArtGal - If you go to Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner there isn't too much interaction. You get a picture with Cinderella (just grin and say hello like I did - shy too) and during dinner is a pre-recorded quick show where the castle mice (furry/non-face) and Fairy Godmother flit quickly around the room. Hugs are quick -- Enough of the characters to warm my little girl's heart but not TOO MUCH. Anyway ... just wanted to share. (Just DH and I)

In 2007 I plan to go to a real character breakfast with the non-face characters but I don't know which yet. You'll have to tell us which ones you end up going to and if you liked it. :sunny:

We (me, DH, and ILs) have been to several character meals with no kids. We also really love Liberty Tree Tavern. We have not been to CRT in three years, but I was not overly impressed. The ambience was great, but the food as good as it was at some of the other places we went.

Try Liberty Tree Tavern in MK. You will love it.

AGREED! We ended up there because we hadn't made any ADR's and had the wonderful surprise of Minnie & Mickey at our table - a table of 6 adults no less.

Great photos - great time - great food!

I like 1900 Park Faire for brunch. It is a must do for us. Evem w/out kids I would want to do it. I have never done LTT for dinner, only lunch and it wasn't more than ok.

I am trying Ohana next rip, the onw with STich??...I hear good things about it.

mum and i are both grown up girls who love nothing better than a character meal-especially the breakfasts.Last trip we did cape may, chef mickeys, ohana, breakfastosaurus, garden grill and crystal palace (what did we miss for next trip?).

We also love queuing up to meet the characters-the only one we struggled with was sleeping beauty as she thought we were with the family in front.
I could quite happily go to disney just for the character fun and not even go on 1 single ride. :goodvibes

Two grown adults going to a charachter meal? What in the world are you thinking? Do you want to look like fools???!!!

LOL, in all seriousness, of course you'll have a great time. The characters will have just as much fun with you (and sometimes more, as they aren't dodging toddlers throwing food at your table).

I'll echo the Liberty Tree Tavern suggestion as a good "adults only" choice. The restaurant is very spread out and you won't generally be forced into the middle of kid-ville unless you want to, and the food is served family style at the table so you aren't running back and forth to a buffet. It's simple, basic "thanksgiving" type food - but if you like that, it's a great choice.

(Also at the Magic Kingdom is The Plaza - you might want to take note of it. While not a character meal, it's a sit-down restaurant that serves sandwiches, salads, and desserts with great prices - for only a few dollars more than a counter service meal you can have a relaxed sit-down lunch or light dinner without having to go to the expense and time-commitment of most sit-downs. I generally go there several times each trip just because it's such a nice, more "adult" break and such a value.)

Back to the character meals, another good choice is Donald's Breakfastausaurus at the Animal Kingdom. It's a lovely breakfast with Donald and the gang at the AK. It's a buffet, but it's honestly the best breakfast I've ever had. They have a lovely breakfast pizza that really impressed me, as well as the more traditional breakfast items (and even Krispy Kream dounts!). The character interaction is good, though because of the size of the place it's not usually as relaxed as Liberty Tree usually feels.

The Castle has gone through some disapointing menu changes, so make sure you check it carefully before you decide. It is undeniably fun to eat in Cinderella Castle, but lunch and dinner now have pre-plated, single meals that are rather restrictive and not extremely pleasing to many of us. The breakfast is still great, but it is extremely hard to get reservations and, again, is rather expensive. I'm of the mind that if you can't get into Cindy's breakfast, try to get an early reservation at The Crystal Palace next door instead. You still get to walk through the empty park if you can get a ressie before 9AM (on a non-EMH day, of course), and see the castle and stop and take a pic of just you and it. The truth I've found is, especially with the menu changes, it can be more fun to have breakfast looking out at the castle rather than being in it (as the view from CRT is actually not very good).

Hope this helps a little in making your decisions. Remember with character meals that you really are paying more for the whole experience, and that for the same price you could probably get superior meals in other sit-downs. I'm not knocking the food, but just be aware that you're paying for the show too so I always think of character meals as special "splurges". The other benefit is that you will know the final cost before you sit down, which makes things more relaxed anyways.

Good luck!

We found Mickeys Backyard Barbecue a great time. All you can eat
free beer, and the party last for about 2 to 3 hours, of dancing with the characters, and great character interaction on the floor with characters
floating around the tables. Not like the others, eat, take a pic and your gone
2-3hours of fun

DH and I are both 20-somethings with NO kids and do character meals. I usually just wave at the characters as they pass by...I don't want them to take away time from families with younger kids. We just like the ambiance of it all. It's so cute to see those little kids interacting with the characters.

Although, when my family of THIRTEEN (all us kids/spouses are grown and in our 20's or 30's) was at Disneyland last year, we did the Goofy's Kitchen Breakfast and I swear the characters had a blast with my family. I think I recall muffins being thrown and Goofy trying to put the salt and pepper shakers in my purse.

Yes! By all means! The characters stop and interact at your table even if you are adults and pose for photos...it is really fun. My DH and I did it last year on our grownups only trip, and DH, DS, (who is 17) and myself (who is nowhere near 17, ha ha!) will do it again in December...the 17 year old picked out one character meal, at Liberty Tree Tavern, because it's his favorite place to eat, and I picked the other at Chef Mickey's, because Mickey's my favorite and we haven't been there yet. DH said as long as they have food, he's game for any character meal, so go where we wanted.

Next April I am taking my mother on her first trip to WDW and she and I will be doing a character meal somewhere too. It's a really fun part of the Disney experience!

A couple of trips ago I was at CP and at a table next to us I noticed two older women. The first time a character came to the table I hopped up and had the two women put their arms around Piglet while I took a picture with their camera. I had fun taking my kid's pictures then theirs and they then had pictures with both of them and the character.

They had allot of fun and everyone is so busy with their kids, characters and the food, no one would notice you!!!

My best friend & I went together years ago & did many character meals :thumbsup2

I'm married with children now, and when we had breakfast in the castle with Cinderella & friends last time it was all for me!!! DD is a totaly tomboy & DS was 3. After many years of looking at that castle I just had to see the inside of it with my own eyes!!!

Book as many character meals as you want & have a blast!!!!!

DH and I have done CP 3 times and we love it...the characters will come over and hug me and shake DH's hand..its great!

We are trying 1900 Park Faire in Dec...cant wait to meet Prince Charming!

My sister and I just got back from an 8-day visit and we had dinner at CRT and CP. I'll be 54 in a couple of days, but let me tell you, my inner child was going nuts, and I think many of the characters know this because I got lots of hugs and high fives. Just because I've gotten older doesn't mean I've entirely grown up!

Go and enjoy! :thumbsup2

Go and enjoy!!! Disney brings out the inner child in all of us. I enjoy the characters and interacting with them. I love to watch them interact with others as well.

I would reccommend Cindy's Castle for lunch or the Princess Storybook Breakfast at Epcot.
