I'm looking for some feedback on anyone who has been at a character meal at Universal, either one of the parks or a resort.

If anybody has, please give me your opinion on the best. I'm assuming there is more than one.

Also. I'm trying to determine if any have Scooby Doo.

Finally, are there any Scooby Doo attractions at either of the parks.

Thanks in advance....

I don't think there is a Scooby attraction. But Scooby and Shaggy drive around in the Mystery Machine van and stop for pictures. We got pictures with them several different times last year. They were usually in front of the big store in the the front of the park, or near ET.

Thanks....

Anybody ever been to a character meal ????

Any input is appreciated

Hi Tigger,

Last year when our family was coming out of the Hanna-Barbera Ride, my older son and I walked directly out, through the gift shop and right out onto the sidewalk (it let's you out and the walkway out goes right through the gift shop) We were patiently waiting for my hubby and youngest to join us and began wondering what was taking so long, so we walked back in. Low and behold there was my hubby and youngest doing pictures with Scoob! There was a photographer there doing professional ones and everything. I am not sure if they will be doing them again in that area since HB has turned into Neutron, but ask around when you get there, it may have moved to a new area.

PS By the way, we picked it up at the end of the day and our little one has it on his bureau- he treasures it!

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to look for the photo opportunity...

I stayed at Portofino Bay in December, and they have a wonderful restaurant there called Trattoria del Porto. On Friday nights, they had a character meal featuring Scooby Doo and Woody Woodpecker. The buffet is one the best I have ever had. Prime rib, pasta cooked to order, cheesecake, etc. for 19.95 per adult. (can't remember the kid's price). There is a seperate area where kids can eat, with little picnic tables, bean bag chairs and a big screen TV showing Nick Jr. programs. The characters spent a lot of time interacting with the kids. I highly recommend it. (I assume they're still doing it .. you may want to call PBH and ask)

Scooby and Shaggy at the Islands in RPR. I took them about 45 minutes before they got to us, we were almost done with our meal. I mentioned to the waiter it was my birthday. Later..Scooby and Shaggy was singing happy birthday with a nicely decorated cake with a candle! That was nice.

Tigger Woods - Any other characters ? Did you have to make reservations?

This sounds like excellent, thanks for the info.

Tigger,
I believe Scooby is always there, and they rotate the other character. (Shaggy, etc.) I think there are always just 2 characters. We did not need to make a reservation because the restaurant is very large and it was the slow season. I would check with them before you go, though.

When eating just a normal meal at the islands Restaurant at the RPR... Shaggy and Scooby came walking through the restaurant...

Shaggy was hilarious and sat with us at the table... my daughter offered him some fries.. and he said

"Like cool man.. these are the best fries I've ever had"

He put ketchup on them and sat and ate about 10 of them from my daughters plate.... was too funny.

Unfortunately - I didn't have my camera with me... Scooby was good too... the both signed the back of my daughters paper placemat as a souvenier.

>>^..^<<

Thanks for all the input...

I'm already looking forward to our December trip..

We had dinner with Scooby and Shaggy on Monday. Like another poster said, it took about 45 minutes before they got to us. Shaggy was pretty cool with the kids. Called them all by name. We were at the Islands Dining Room. It is pretty pricy. We sat in a kid's area where they have their own buffet. There was also this huge couch where they could lay down and watch cartoon network with other kids. So, it was the nicest meal my husband and I had. There are lots of character opportunities in the park also. We saw Scoob and Shaggy and the Mystery Machine a lot. So I would reccomend only if you have a real Scooby Doo fan. We also saw Woody Woodpecker in the elevator at the Hard Rock. He and Scooby do a dinner at the Sunset Grill on Wednesday.

Just got back and we had a character dinner at the Sunset grill at teh Hard rock hotel. I called and made priority seating. It was on a Saturday evening.

The only thing the kids could order was a buffet..geared just towards kids. It cost $8.95. They served the usual kids stuff, chicken fingers, pizza, mac and cheese, cupcakes, etc.

I was disappointed in the adult meals. I had the chile...not up to par. My friends meal was the Ny steak..it was burnt on the bottom and he sent it back..they did handle it well and bourght another meal free of charge..you would just think with the steak costing $24, it would have been cooked better. My Dh didn't like his ribs or the baked beans that came with them..maybe it was all a matter of prefernce.

As far as the characters go, I'm used to the disney type character dinners...where there are several at one time. Here we had woody woodpecker by himself for the first 20mins, then he left and Scooby came in for the next 20 mins. That was it.

We went to a character dinner @ the Portofino Bay ... I can't recall the name of the Restaurant, but it had a FABULOUS area for the kids to go w/a huge canopied bed where they could relax & watch cartoons, etc.... Our characters were Woody Woodpecker & Curious George. They went into the children's area and had pillow fights with the kids & watched cartoons with them & wrestled around with them while my husband & I enjoyed the BEST MEAL of our entire 3 week vacation. It was nice to get away from the kids for a little while (that sounds horrible). Anyway.... this was GREAT!!!!!

Steph25,,, just wondering what night at the PBH was the dinner... we will be there Sat to Wed... I would love to go to this dinner thanks,,,amy

I apologize... We were in FL for 3 weeks... it's all becoming a BLUR now. I bet, though, that 800-711-0080, they can tell you which hotel it was & how to get in on this fun. It was, truly, the most memorable night for the kids. Hope it's still goin' on when you are there! Sorry.... this isn't as helpful as I'd like to be.
