Hi, we are a family of 4 traveling from UK for two weeks. Two sons aged 12 and 10. This is our 2nd trip and previously we did tusker house and crystal palace. I have sci fi and beaches and cream adrs currently. We were planning to eat breakfast before entering the parks (McDonald's, Denny's etc) and just grab qs meals during the day for lunch and dinner. However, I'm thinking my boys aren't going to want to queue to meet characters (going end July) so I won't get any photos with characters. So I was thinking of doing a character meal but don't know which one....don't really want to do repeats so looking for something different. I think I'd rather do one in a park, rather than a resort due to time wasted traveling... Ideas please? Was really interested in trails end but then realised there's no characters! Currently leaning towards Chef Mickeys....any advice greatly appreciated :)

Chef Mickey's is in the Contemporary

What about Hollywood and Vine?? They are Disney JR in the AM or they are Fab 4 in the evening

Oh. Lol. Well...not completely against it being at a resort...
My boys are definitely too old for Disney jnr but will have a look at the evening menu thanks.

Two recommendations:
  • Garden Grill, at Epcot. It features Chip, Dale, Mickey and Pluto, and rotates above The Land.
  • Minnie's Dine at H&V for dinner. It features the big 5 in seasonal costumes. The food isn't great, but it's food and the gang in costume is adorable.

Askerus is out also I suppose, as is the castle.. what about Ohana.. always enjoy eating there...

I think with your age group, Garden Grill works.
Chip and Dale make it fun for everyone, no matter what age, and of course you get Mickey too!

I am another supporter of Garden Grill. The character interaction was wonderful with my two girls and the food comes to you.

Lol. Just realised in my first post I wrote that I was leaning towards Chef Mickeys.... Definitely meant Garden Grill

Chef Mickeys would have those "classic" characters and is an easy monorail ride to/from Magic Kingdom. So you could easily do a lunch/dinner on the day you're at Magic Kingdom. They might enjoy the Step Sisters and Step Mother at 1900 Park Fare. My 12 year old son actually thinks it'll be funny to meet them. :) It's also on the monorail so another easy meal when you're at Magic Kingdom. If you do lunch there, it's characters like Mad Hatter I believe. We've never been there. But my DS12 LOVES Chef Mickeys :)

Now to decide whether to go for breakfast, dinner or lunch......breakfast is cheaper....

Breakfast at 'Ohana....Yum! - Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, & Pluto

Crystal Palace - we love Winnie the Pooh & Friends and love being right in Magic Kingdom. (Never had breakfast here but have eaten late lunch & dinner) We once ate around park closing and could see Wishes fireworks from the window where we were seated. When we were done we walked out to a nearly empty Main Street - quite magical.

My boys were the same age as yours when we last ate at these meals and enjoyed every second!
Have a great trip!

Garden Grill is a favorite of ours! We wouldn't miss that one.

I am excited to try Minnie's Holiday Dine this year. In July it will be Minnie’s Summertime Dine (Heat things up at a beach-inspired bash welcoming the excitement of the season!) w/Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy

Garden Grill is definitely a good one for those ages bc it has Chip n Dale, Mickey and Pluto...Chip N Dale are seriously funny too! Ohana breakfast is another good one for that age group bc it has Lilo & Stitch as well as Mickey and Pluto and its a ton of fun...wouldn't really waste much park time bc you can get an early ADR there and they are at the Poly so you can just hop the monorail to get to MK. Another place that I love is 1900 Park Fare...now hear me out on this 1, lol, yes its kind of with princesses (well sort of), lol...it you go at dinner time you get the Tremaines (evil step mother and step sisters) they are soooo funny! My boys LOVE them, lol...you also get Prince Charming and Cinderella. Its a ton of fun...last time we were there the step mother told my older son she was looking for a prince for her daughters and asked if he was up to the task, lol...it was a ton of fun! Also if you go to 1900 Park Fare for breakfast you get Alice in Wonderland (super sweet and she REALLY loves tea, lol), The Mad Hatter (hes really funky, lol), Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, & Tigger. Again 1900 Park Fare is at The Grand Floridian so you can just hop the monorail and be there, doesn't really waste much time getting there...or take the boat its actually quicker to get there then the monorail, lol...Also the another option (If you can snag it) would be Be Our Guest...its not a character meal but if you get the elusive dinner time you get to meet the Beast after dinner. That was my older sons highlight of our trip was meeting the beast.

Thank you all. I think I'm gonna go with garden grill....just need to decide whether to do breakfast or lunch....

I really wanted to do BOG but don't think my boys would be interested at all and I didn't really go much on the menu and price. I think a meal where you get to meet more than one character is better value.

My boys are currently 12 and 9 and they love BOG! It's one of their fave places to eat.
They would also pick O'Hana's over Garden Grill if that helps you any.

We love 1900 PF for breakfast! The Mad Hatter is an absolute hoot!! He is wacky and out of control! This is a must do for our family for the entertainment factor more than anything! We love the food there also! Although my kids are biased and could breakfast all day, everyday!
