Character meal overkill?

1st time with our DS, who will turn 5 while we are there. We are using the DP and DS is picky eater that prefers breakfast foods/fruits. Does this look like a good plan?

Saturday (arrival day): Dinner at Whispering Canyon
Sunday: Breakfast at Crystal Palace
Monday: Epcot - no meal plan
Tuesday: Breakfast at Tusker House
Wednesday (non park day): Hoop De Doo Revue
Thursday: Brunch at Chef Mickey OR lunch at the new Skippers Canteen.
Friday: I want a MM/Fantasmic dining package but it looking more like breakfast at Hollywood & Vine.

I anticipate us eating our dinners at Pop using our QS credits.

Crystal Palace is Pooh and Friends... so that would be a favorite of mine.

Tusker House is the Fab 5, but that is so unique menu wise - I think its worth it.

If the new Canteen is open - Go for it! Chef Mickeys is great, but after two other character meals... That may be overkill when compared to only doing that.

Agree with pp. I would do Skippers Canteen if you can get that over Chef Mickey's. You will have character overlap from Tusker House there, and Tusker House gets much better reviews than Chef Mickeys. Hollywood and Vine also has different characters as well.

Crystal Palace and Tusker House both get good feedback, so good choices! We enjoyed Tusker House breakfast on our last trip. DS just turned 1 and had only been eating solids for a couple months, but man did that kid devour some Mickey waffles!

Make sure he's wearing a free birthday button the whole trip too (you can call the Disney reservation number and get it noted on your hotel reservation. They will then usually have a button waiting for you at check-in, or you can get it at any Guest Services). At Tusker House, DS got a cupcake and card signed by Mickey and the characters.

I definitely agree with keeping your primary meal every day to breakfast if your kid mostly likes breakfast food.
That said, I like characters at Disney and I like dining at Disney, but I don't particularly like character meals, so I probably wouldn't plan 4 in one trip (again). Two would probably be my limit with kids. Zero is my limit without kids. (except 1900 Park Fare, because the characters are entertaining enough to compensate for the mediocre food)

We did seven characters meals in nine days on our last trip because even though the food might not be quite as good, our three year old is very content watching the characters walk around, meet them, etc so my wife and I can enjoy our meal. She also loves getting autographs and character meals are a great way to get a bunch of them at one time. We almost filled two autograph books on our last trip.

Crystal Palace is different characters but Chef Mickey and Tusker house will be the same. (for me yes since the characters are the same I would do lunch at the new canteen

Good luck getting skippers canteen. I have a feeling it will be absolutely nuts trying to get in when that place opens.

Im all for character meals with kids, the more the better!

Its the best way to let US enjoy our meals without rushing.. they are happy, eating, entertained, waiting for characters and you can then skip the long lines to meet them at the parks.

I think your plan looks good, just keep in mind that appart from Tusker House, most places offer the same breakfast buffet items... scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit (cantaloupe and strawberries) and mickey waffles. What tells them apart is that they usually have a signature juice.

I canceled Chef Mickey's when we scored the Minnie dinner. We have Tusker and Crystal Palace, also. I have heard too many great things about Tusker to cancel it :) I think you have a good balance and could do Skipper's if you're lucky to snag a reservation.
