hi ,

We want to go to Ariels grotto for lunch .
My eldest daughter is 11 , she still eats kids meal - not a big eater . ( she's only little )

Has any asked for a kids meal for their older child ( kids cut off at 10 ) and get to pay the kids price or do they still charge as an adult meal and still just get a kids meal ?
It's going to be the same for the Fantasmic dinner at Cafe Orleans ?

Just trying to budget as she's now an adult for her park tickets .

Talk to your server. Some will let her skate with a kid meal with a kid price. Some will only offer a larger portion of the kid meal at double the kid price.

Budget for the age 10+ price.
It will be like pixie dust if you are charged for 3yr to 9yr.

I completely understand. I have a 12 year old who is very small And cannot eat adult portions. I booked BB F! Dinner for her as an adult but politely asked the waiter if she could get a kids meal and he said Sure!! I was one adult with 3 kids 9,12 and 12. Had no issue paying adult price for her twin because she can eat!
I say just be honest and hope for pixie dust but budget for her actual age.

Depends on the restaurant and the server. We did the RBT Fantasmic package and DD 11 did not like anything on the adult menu so she asked for the Kid's menu. We were only charged the kid price for her. At Ariel's she wanted the kids chocolate chip pancakes. At age 10, they just let her order off the kids menu and charged the kid price. This year they did not let her order from the kid's menu, but made her a larger modified version at an adult price. She was very glad they did that, but not totally thrilled when she got them because she knows and loves the kid's version and these were different. I can't remember how she said they were different, but they were missing something.

As long as she can still get the kids meals I will accept the higher price.
I wish they didn't cap ages for dining but I see how people would take advantage, especially for the all you can eat restaurants.

I've never had a problem with getting the kids meals for my daughters for the regular meal, even when they were 12. They aren't big eaters, and one is a cheeseatarian: grilled cheese, mac and cheese, cheese pizza.. You are getting the kids portion for the kids price(well in reality 10 times the kids price, but you're at DL). Most CMs just say "oh thats fine"

This is one the things I dislike about Disneyland. (And I pretty much love Disneyland...) I get it when it is a buffet and they have to draw the line somewhere, but for all the other restaurants I don't understand forcing a child to buy a large meal that they won't eat just because they turned 10. It seems like such a waste of money and food. I don't mind paying if we can actually eat it. We have 4 kids - 3 are Disney adults. We opted to only eat a few meals inside the parks on our recent trip and I think it worked out better for us just because of the kid meal issue. For our next trip I think we need to look into adult meals that we could split between us.

OP: for a character meal, you might be stuck with the adult price, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Hope for the best but plan for the worst. I think you might have better luck asking for a child meal on non-character meals though. Good luck.

When my daughter was 10, and we went to Ariels Grotto, they asked if she wanted the kids meal- which she did and we would have asked to order it if they hadn't offered. I expected to pay the adult price anyway, but they only charged me the child's price, so that was great. So it can happen, but as others have said maybe hope for the best and plan for the extra cost!.

I have a daughter who is Aspie. She is 28. She will frequently order off the kids menu, they serve a larger portion at a slightly higher price.

The question they will ask is "How many children 9 and under?" My niece is 10. My answer is "None.", then I ask for a kid's menu and let the server decide. As long as she can order what she likes, I'm not worrying about the price. I plan for an adult price.

What about a 15 year old who is a light eater and will only eat a small portion? Or a 25 year old? They have to draw the line.

My niece is 10. At Character meals, I expect to pay adult price for her. I am paying for entertainment. At regular table service, I request a kids menu, and am willing to pay adult pricing for kids' food. I am more interested in her getting what she likes. At Carthay, she ordered off the child's menu, and was charged from the child's menu.

Disney has to draw the line somewhere, and they opt for 10 and older. If they said 12 and older, there'd be people griping about their 12yo. Like I have said, I have a 28 yo with food issues, and Disney is very accommodating by allowing her to order what she likes to eat off kids menus (although she is getting much better!)

Counter service you can order what you want and no one cares if it is for an adult or child.
