CHaRAcTeR GoOf uPs

I too was in a marching band, backstage at MK. I've seen characters on roller blades carrying their head under their arm. But that doesn't count, it was backstage.

Last year after lunch at Marrakesh, the hostess told us that she thought Alladin and Jasmine were inside the giftshop across from the restaurant. We took DD inside and sure enough there they were. We were the only ones in the store, however, and they must not have seen us coming because they were leaning up against the counter and having a very un-Disney like conversation with another CM.

Alladin noticed us right away and snapped right back into character, but Jasmine acted decidedly annoyed and put out that we had interrupted her conversation :( DH and I still to this day talk about that "w"itchy Jasmine.

No, they're not called 'handlers.' They used to be called 'greeters' but, I believe, the current proper term is 'character attendant.'

How about seeing "Sleeping Beauty" with a cigarette in her mouth! When DS worked at DL last summer, he used to see all kinds of funny things like that. Not just backstage-when they were rehearsing for the big July 17th event, the "characters" on stage were rehearsing, but not wearing their, um, "attire". What was a testament to their talent, though, was that he could tell which character they were by their mannerisms.
I have to share one "legend" of characters out of characters. One day, Donald Duck was onstage being kicked repeatedly by this pre-teen aged boy, in a not so kickable area of the body (if you know what I mean). Meanwhile, the parents just laughed-they did nothing to stop the boy. Suddenly, Donald had had enough-"Don't F*** with the Duck!", he said. Even though he said it in his best Donald Duck voice, when word reached management, there was a mutual parting between Donald and DL.

My experience happened this year, labor day at AK. Visiting Pooh, Tig & Eyore (sp?) . It wasn't too crowded, it was down at the old boat dock where these guys are always available for pics. We were just about ready for our turn with Tig when he quickly walked past us and up to the rail. Here, there was a little boy, prob about 4 yrs old, trying to climb up the hill around the rocks & trees with not a parent in site. Tig was waving his arms, pointing and trying to get anybodys attention without speaking to show them the little boy. he finally gave up and went back to his post.

We had a CRT breakfast with a bi#!*y Aurora. She was huffing and rolling her eyes - the whole 9 yards. We got a picture with her looking rather irritated by the whole thing. We never saw her again. :confused3 :rotfl:

Yes! Peter Pan and Wendy across from Pirates having a most un-childlike discussion about Peter Pan's evening before. I was standing there looking at them within a few feet. Their handler wasn't paying attention as the park was dead and dd and I were just stunned. I did one of these :confused3 to them, and they snapped out of it. DD5 was not buying it. She was annoyed looking in the pictures and just walked away generally disappointed. She asked where the "real" Peter Pan and Wendy were. Oh well, the rest of the characters have been great!
well, when I was on my CP the rumor in the tunnels was that Peter and Wendy were actually dating each other, so that might explain the convo.

I saw some crazy character things coming and going at work. the wierdest was the first-watching this tiny girl as Eeyore dragging his poor head behind her.....the princesses out side smoking, Cinderella having a conversation with the evil queen, Maleficent with only her green chin on, and once on a rainy day at Splash I got the bejeezus scared out of me by Brer Bear.

My brother teaches high school music, and a few years ago, he took his choir to perform at WDW. I guess they have all these secret passages to get from here to there. Well, as they were walking in one of these passages, they saw Cinderella with a cigarrette. Now, this was all behind the scenes, so that didn't surprise me. But what was interesting was that several of his students stopped to take a picture of this unDisneylike Cinderella. He said that within seconds they were swarmed with security, and the kids had their film taken away. Except my brother, of course. He managed to hide his small camera and still has the picture.

When I once saw Snow White come out to greet people I heard her say to her handler through her gigantic smile "20 minutes and that's it." It was pretty hot out that day. :rotfl:

Security was most likely just because they don't allow pics backstage period - not because of smoky Cindy :rotfl: You'll rarely see backstage pics, unless they're "official" or from a source (like travel channel specials) with special permission.

DH and I were having dinner at Garden Grill and DH told Chip I had a crush on him....Chip came and hugged me making kissing sounds and "growled" at me....I am going to assume that this was out of character because chipmunks don't growl!!!!!

It was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This isn't my experience, but it was posted by a dis'er a few months back and it surprised me so much that I almost spit my water out laughing. Hope the original dis'er sees this and clarifies. I don't remember all the facts, but the gist is:

"One time my sister and I saw Peter Pan getting ready to go into a parade. I yelled at him to look so I could get his picture and he said "Bite me!" and took off."

:rotfl: That still cracks me up. Guess I need to grow up. :teeth:

these are too funny!!!
The Cinderella that we say at the character connection in toon town wasnt the friendliest...we decided to say that she was working a double...When BF came up to her he held is arm out for her...and her only gruff reply was "I guess you figured it out from the other one."
then we got the Snow White on crack!!! Her hi pitch bubbley voice was just too much!
We decided Belle took the cake with this one...not too over the top spoke to both of us in a gentle, kind tone...took photos seperately with BF and me...very Belle. I think the others needed to take a lesson!!!

I don't know; I think I remember a Chip&Dale cartoon with Pluto and they were making fun of him by bouncing on all fours and barking and growling. :teeth:

My DS 2 1/2 is a great big Buzz fan. We saw Buzz at MGM and while we were in line we noticed that Buzz was doing the potty dance. He had his arms in front of him and was dancing back and forth. We were next and his handler appeared to be quite annoyed with Buzz.

There were two girls behind us that were later in line with us for Woody. They said they didn't know what was up with Buzz. They thought there was another signal when they needed a bathroom break.

I have a couple!

~Sleeping Beauty "ripped me a new one" for not having a pen. We were having breakfast at the castle back in the day when that was the only princess meal, and my sister's little girl got really sick and she left with our pen. I just smiled at her and said "thank you for being so patient with me!"

~Last week Ron Stoppable (we saw this guy 2 days in a row and he is the most awesome character I've ever interacted with) was talking about what a bad driver he was. The funny thing was that he was totally in character and this guy was great interacting with the kids. All of the sudden he says "oops! I don't drive unless you count a scooter!"

~At the MNSSHP in 2004 the Queen of Hearts knocked my 2 yo dd down with her butt! We were on the path from Toontown to Future World where they set up the trick-or-treating with all of the cards and some Allison Wonderland characters and as she was walking past us she stopped and turned around. Only problem was that she was bigger front to back than she was side to side, so her rump totally smacked into my 2 yo!

More fun glitches than actual out of Character :)
1900 park faire
The VERY proper Alice in Wonderland was having a wonderful chat with my 22yo son, a little clean flirting on both sides, and playful banter about getting together at the madhatter tea, etc. My (evil) DH suggests that perhaps they could go to Pleasure Island, and she of course was properly shocked, and "knew nothing about that sort of place". My DH said "then why do you still have the stamp on your arm?" (a couple of years ago) She looked down in guilty shock, recovered nicely when there was nothing there to be seen, but by this time our whole family was craking up!!

Tarzan at Disneyland nearly falling off his elephant in the parade when I signed Thank you to him after he had wished me Happy Birthday. He craned around to sign back "are you deaf?" to which I replied in the negative. He kept signing to me riding the elephant float backwards until we couldn't see each other. VERY magical!
