Character dinners?

Oh, my. I just discovered this part of the boards.

We'll need a place for dinner on our first Saturday night. Are there any character places to go to for dinner?

Will you be in the parks on your first night? We always go to Chef Mickeys on arrival day so we don't have to use a park entrance for only part of a day....

No, we won't be going to the parks that day. We'll be getting in late Friday night, so we'll be taking it easy Saturday, maybe swimming at our condo that day, maybe DTD that night.

You could try Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary or 1900 ParkFare at the Grand Floridian for dinner. Both are good choices, but we prefer the food at 1900 Park Fare.

1900 Park Fare looks like a great place, but WOWZA! $30.00 for my just-turned-11 year old! There is NO WAY she will eat an adult amount of food. Even I won't eat a regular adult amount of food since I now have a lap band.

Too bad there's not a regular menu-type character rest. for us to go to.

is in the Magic Kingdom. There aren't a lot of character dinners outside the parks. Chef Mickey and 1900 Park Fare are it.

Another idea is Downtown Disney. There is a good Disney atmosphere and some good restaurants.

Crystal Palace is inside MK. As far as I know, for a character dinner outside a park it's 1900 Park Fare or Chef Mickey's.

If you want a character meal that Saturday how about a late breakfast. Breakfast character meals are less expensive and just as much fun. Try to make one of the last reservations for breakfast (probably around 11am). This way you can sleep in and have a nice late breakfast / early dinner. Cape May at the BC has a great character breakfast. Last I looked at Allearsnet it's $18.99 per adult. The characters are Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip 'N Dale.
Also I hear O'hana's (at Polynesian) is great for breakfast. It's family style all you can eat. Not sure of the price. you can check allearsnet.
1900 & Chef Mickeys also have character breakfasts but I believe they're a bit more expensive.

If you want to do a fun dinner your first night -how about Whispering Canyon at WL. It's not a character meal, but it can be alot of fun. The waiters joke around with you and it's noisey and fun for kids. They offer meals ala carte or a family style all-you-can-eat BBQ skillet.

You have been given many good suggestions here....I agree with much that was said, specifically:

1) That a breakfast at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club is a great character meal...

2) 1900 Park Fare at the GF has a good character breakfast and dinner...

3) Chef Mickeys is great for breakfast or dinner...

4) Whispering Canyon at the WL is a fun place to have dinner....

In Downtown there is no real "Disney themed" meal, but they do have the Rainforest Cafe and I think T-Rex will be open by the time you visit...

There is the Hoop Dee Doo or Mickey's Backyard BBQ over at Fort Wildnerness... Both are fun!

If we do a character meal, the only time I'd be interested in doing it is Sat. night. But it looks like we may just have to find some other place to eat. Going on this trip is a big stretch (budget wise) for us that we may not be able to do the character meal. But that's okay, we're going on a cruise, so that should be able to make up for it, right???

Does anyone know if there are any Lebanese restaurants nearby? We'll be staying on International Drive and we'd love to have some manaeesh for breakfast one or nine mornings. Or some falafels for dinner!

So, if we decide on DTD for dinner Sat. night, what's good? It needs to be a place with a good vegetarian selection.



Oh! I just thought of something! Would there be time on Sunday morning (after Thanksgiving) to do a character breakfast and still make it to the cruise in time? I have NO IDEA how long it will take to drive to the dock, but if for some reason we had some Disney Visa reward dollars left after a week in the parks, that could be an option.

It is new... It is a chain place that is owned by the same people that own Rainforest Cafe...They are building one right near the Lego place and McDonald's in Downtown Disney... It is set to open in early fall... They have large, life-like dinosaurs throughout the restaurant and a jungle-like atmosphere...The menu will be the typical, chain food... Burgers, chicken, fries, salads... It will be similar to the menu and prices at Rainforest but will have some differences too.
