How does this really work? Unfortunately, my parents
never got into it for my childhood or my older brother's.
But with a possible trip consisting of me and my best
friend (both 18), was wondering if Character Dining
is just for kids or not? Is it worth it? How does it work?

Thanks!! :)

No No No, althought we have 6 year old boy now, before we had him we went on our own, and since then we have seen many Adults without children. we got chatting one year at crystal palace (Tigger, Pooh Etc) to another English lady who had travelled on her own and was spending 3 weeks, she attended many Character meals solo. So I wouldn't both about travelling Child free. Your problem now is which one or ones to choose. We travel to the World for 2 weeks at a time so we do Breakfast at Chef Mickeys, O'Hana's a must each time for DS birthday, Tuskers, Cape May, Crystal Palace and Hollywood and Vine. Then garden Grille for Dinner.
So Like very thing at WDW it's intended for Children of all ages, no matter what it says on your Passport!!!!!! You get to your table you get your food and then the Characters come to your table, some do have a photo session before hand and and they bring the photos to your table to see if you want to buy them.
So go and try it you won't be sorry.

You are allowed to eat at a character meal if you wish. It's not just for children and their parents.

If you aren't on a dining plan then it's cheaper to eat breakfast with the characters.

Some of my favorites:
Crystal Palace
Akershus
1900 Park Fare
Tusker House-only breakfast available with characters

My first trip to WDW was in 1999. I went with my sister and our younger cousins (9 and 10). My sister and I were in our 20's. We did 3 character meals-breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Oh, my husband and I love character dining and we have no kids! We went to several when we celebrated our 25th wedding anniv. We love Chef Mickey's, Tusker House (breakfast), Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare. Last year we went with my parents, just the 4 of us, and ate at 5 character meals and met several friends, all with no kids. We had a blast. The characters are great with adults and tables with no kids. They took lots of pictures with us and we have wonderful memories there with friends we had to go from PA to WDW to see:rotfl2: We have 3 character meals planned again for our trip in September! I think you'll enjoy yourself a lot. Just remember, you're in the Happiest Place on Earth.

One more thing, depending when you go, you will probably need reservations. Most are buffets so no matter what you eat, you will find something you like. I usually overeat! The characters come around to your table for photos. Depending where you go, there can be one professional photo taken that will offer to see you (Tusker House (breakfast only), CRT, Norway).
