So, I was looking at a website with the character meals and pricing and they say ages 3-11 is considered a child? Why is this? I thought it was 3-9. So how come I had to pay for the ADULT dining plan for my DS11 if I could pay kids price OOP if I didn't have the dining plan? If I'd known this, I wouldn't have evn BOUGHT the dining plan for him, since it would have been cheaper not to get it.

Anyone know anything about this?

You might be looking at an old menu - last July everything was changed to 3-9, especially the character meals/buffets. We did not have the dining plan and we were charged adult price for DD11 at all the buffets, however, she could order off the kid's menu at kid prices when it was available. Really, the dining plan helps you out at least on buffets.. We had told DD no more buffets or character meals till she started to eat more but this year we are going with free dining and booked several buffets.

I don't recall the rules but I thought the buffets were the same, I don't remember ever getting a discount on my dd (who is 13 now). I would think that if it was true, then it would be way too complex to separate it all.

Where did you read this btw?

Well, in the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World With Kids"(copyright 2006), it says on page143, "Adult prices apply to persons ages 12 and older, children's prices to ages 3 to 11".

I THOUGHT it was 3 to 9 and it is actually a non-issue now, since our trip is over and for our October trip we are not doing DDP AND DS will be 12. Just wondering and hoping to be able to advise others.

The buffets we have seen recently also have stated that kids are 3-9. I guess the book needs to be modified a little.

You have to remember the timing of when the printed guides go to print. Every year something is out of date by the time the book is printed. This is one of them. The age for children is 3-9.

Oh, so it changed THAT recently? Now I understand. I feel better that I didn't waste money.

Nope, you didn't waste money. :thumbsup2 It was within the last year.

Okay, I found the old announcement on allears as shown below:

JUNE 2005

Effective July 1, children's meals at Disney restaurants will be for ages 3-9 (revised from ages 3-11).

:sunny:
