Hi,
I haven't been to WDW in many years now (I moved to S. Cali), but we are planning to go in July for my daughters birthday. I would like to have 2 or 3 character dining experiences, especially one on her birthday. I wanted to get some recommendations. My daughter will be turning 6 and is a disney fan all the way (all characters)! I also have a 2, almost 3, year old boy (who likes all the boy stuff).

So what are your favorite character dining experiences and why?

And, which you recommend for a birthday?

See my next reply for more questions - Thanks!

Thanks,
Michele

If your DD is a princess fan than I would definately try to get a ressie for the CRT. We did the breakfast a couple of years ago and it was great. The food came preplated and all the princesses came around the table and really sat down and talked with both my DDs. If you can't get a ressie for CRT, you can always try 1900 Park Fare in GF or the Storybook Princess Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner at Norway in Epcot.

For your little guy, I would definately suggest either LTT or CM. At that same time, as before, we went to LTT and the characters that came out was Pluto, Goofy, Minnie, and Chip and Dale. It is set in the Colonial era. Never had the lunch but the dinner was good, it was a turkey dinner with all the fixings served family style. My kids want to go back, but we are trying something new in June. We have never eaten at CM so that is what we are trying out. I heard that the buffet there is great...especially the desert.

There are so many Character Dining experiences to choose from. My suggestion is to find out what kind of food that your family likes and choose from there. The different resorts have character dining as well. Check out allearsnet.com or wdwinfo.com these are both great sites that have the menus and talks about each of the restaurant. Good luck :thumbsup2

Our all-time favorite is Chef Mickeys!!! It's a great place to celebrate, and there's a lot of characters.

Enjoy!

We will be trying Ohanas for the first time this year, but in the past we have really enjoyed Cape May & Crystal Palace for breakfast. The character interaction was a little more personalized at Cape May. Plus Cape May wasn't so "girl" focused - Chip & Dale and Goofy certainly kept my 15 year DS enterained!!

For a character meal, I hands down love 1900 Park Fare in the GF. The food is great and and the characters are great!

We were hoping to do 1900 PF this year but they'll be closed for refurbishment July 9-October 1. :sad2:

Chef Mickey's is an all time favorite for us.:thumbsup2

We loved all the ones we went too on our trip.

Chef Mickey's
Crytal Palace
Hollywood & Vine
1900 Park Faire

Every single one of them were awesome character interactions. Not rushed at all and really gave our daughter alot of attention.

okay.. i've done:

chef mickeys (love!!)
best friends (love!)
liberty tree tavern (strongly like)
crystal palace (semi-isolated, bad experience. wouldn't try again or recommend)
breakfastosarus (so not)

i think i might have done more but that's all i can remember right now.

Chef Mickey's for the birthday,definitely!
CRT or Princess Storybook for the Princess

and for the 3rd one, either of these :

Crystal Palace (Pooh, Tigger etc)
'Ohana (Stitch,Lilo,Mickey & Pluto)
LTT or Garden Grill (Chip & Dale, Minnie, Pluto...)

hands down- Chef Mickey's Breakfast

the characters are awesome, they really pay lots of attention to you, even us older disney geeks!!

Chef Mickey's , Crystal Palace (if she's a pooh fan), the princess breakfast at Restarant Akerhaus.

We always do all the character meals (Hollywood&Vine Lunch), Liberty Tree Tavern, 1900 Park Fare. We're there for the kids' smiles, not for good food. We can get good food anywhere. I also liked the Garden Grill in Epcot.

If you are only doing two, I'd pick Chef Mickey's and one of the other two.

Good luck and have a blast.

We love Crystal Palace and 1900 PF Cinderella's Gala Feast. CGF was such a wonderful place, the food was awesome so were the characters.

Okay, so after talking with my dd, she wants princesses (or faries - does anywhere do that?) for her birthday. If 1900 PF is closed in July, what others are good for birthday princesses? What about the Akershus? What is the food like? My kids just don't eat anything "wierd" (their words), although I love new foods. What about CRT, is it only Cinderella or do other princesses show up?

Also, I want to order her a special cake. When I look on the cake threads, can you order special cakes anywhere? For instance, there were some great ones with character's pics on them and then the cinderella shoe cake, can you order those at any of the restuarants?

Too bad 1900 PF is going to be closed, because that sounded like it would have been perfect.

Thanks for all your help.

Michele

We enjoy both CRT and Akerhaus for breakfast. Can't speak of any other meals. No weird food at breakfast. We are only doing Akerhaus in July because we're on the DDP and didn't feel like it was worth 2 credits for CRT.

Both offer an array of princesses. At CRT we saw Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins and Wendy. (Fairy Godmother was in the lobby). At Akerhaus we saw Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Jasmine, Mary Poppins (I've heard something about Ariel with legs but haven't seen).

Never ordered a cake, so someone else will have to help there.

I made my ADR for Akerhaus a couple of weeks ago and got the time I wanted. Don't put that off too long, it's a little difficult to get. Especially the Castle.

have a blast! I can't imagine a more magical birthday.

Ariel tends to show up more for lunch and breakfast at Akershus. Cindy sometimes appears there too.

i dunno what's with the food that keeps people away. the menus look fine to me.
