Character dining and shows

I know there are a couple of options available for character dining both in the parks and at some of the resorts. We are staying at the HRH from Sept 10-14. I have 2 boys ages 7 and 8. We have already booked the breakfast at 3 broomsticks and the Harry Potter package since my boys LOVE Harry Potter. (I don't expect this to be a character experience.) My question is: what character dining experiences would you recommend (if any)? Is there any dining experience or restaurant that you think would be a must for the boys?
Also, do you think the boys will enjoy blue man group?
My final question is about the dinner shows in the area (pirates most specifically). Have any of you done this or similar shows in the area? What did you think of them and would you say that any of them are a must do?

The park hours seem to be somewhat abbreviated at this time of year; especially after what we have become accustomed to with Disney hours. I am concerned about having enough for the boys to do in the evenings.

Thank you for any advice and help! :goodvibes

I believe the only character dining in either park is at the Islands' Confisco Grille. It's a marvel superhero breakfast.

I thought there was at least one at each hotel too. I could be wrong though. :confused3

The character breakfast at Confisco is Spiderman and Things 1 & 2. There are character meals at the hotels but I believe those are dinner only. I don't stay at the hotels since I live so close. Someone will come along and share more information on the hotel character dining.

BTW...there is no character dining at the Studios. There was a Simpsons breakfast but that was discontinued.

Thanks metro!!

I am just looking for opinions form those who have done them recently to see if anything is really a not to be missed kind of thing. ;)
(all it takes are some frozen concoctions and a pool to make me happy! My little guys sometimes require a little more entertainment and the frozen concoctions they are allowed don't have quite the same effect :rolleyes1 )

The lifeguards play games by the pools too...so they can participate in those to keep them occupied. HRH & PBH have slides...pool hop :thumbsup2 At dush, they show movies too.

We have only had the Spidey breakfast at Confiscos. We don't stick around the hotels for characters...sorry I'm no help there.

Each Universal resort does have a character dinner.
RPR - Islands Dining Room
HRH - The Kitchen
PBH - Tratorria Del Porto

The days and times for these character dinners change somewhat frequently. They don't appear every night at each restaurant. When you check into your resort be sure to ask for specific days of the week and times the characters will appear. The front desk or concierge should be able to tell you that information.

Character appearances are rotational. In other words there are no specific characters at a specific restaurant.

When we were at RPR last July they had characters on Wed and Fri and they were the Simpson's then. We were heading downstairs and when the elevator doors opened up there was Homer and Crew standing there, kids kidda freaked at first :scared1: but then got a kick at seeing them.

Thanks for all the good info. :goodvibes I am sure we'll have a good time wherever we eat. I just get a little obsessive planning (is there a 12 step program for that?). :scared:

Mj ~ your story reminds me of when we were taking the boat back from dinner at Whispering Canyon/Wilderness Lodge and we ended up with a fireworks cruise with Peter Pan. We didn't even notice till we got off the boat and Peter gave the boys a playful little hug and skipped away. :upsidedow

I'm having a hard time going from Disney mode on the character meals! So used to 180 days in advance! :lmao:
