Character Call

I'm thinking of setting up a character call for DS(6), as it might be a good way to inform him about our cruise. Does anyone know what is actually said in the call?

We haven't done a character call for a couple of years now, but I'm certain it mentioned the destination and maybe the ship. Other than that it was a "canned" call (no mention of names, dates, etc.). However, there was a thread not too long ago and people reported the call was very generic without mention of the ship, the destination or anything else identifiable.

DD absolutely loved it! The next day she got everyone at school excited because Mickey called her. Your son should enjoy it, but if he isn't expecting a cruise he may not realize what it's about, and it's a fairly short call.

Enjoy your cruise!

I set up a character call for my niece last year and all I can remember is how Minnie & Mickey kept telling her how excited they were that she'll be joining them on a cruise. It definitely is a canned call. They were actually quite hard to understand. This time I set it up with just Mickey. I hope it will be clearer.

Hmm...maybe we should tell him first, then have Mickey call to say how excited he is. Thanks!

My niece was 2 at the time of her first cruise last year. I had showed her a Disney ship online a couple of weeks in advance. When the call finished she didn't really understand that she was going on a cruise. She just liked the call from Minnie and Mickey. I had a picture of the Magic and showed it to her immediately afterwards. She very quickly put 2 and 2 together and was so excited.

DS is 6, and has been on 2 cruises already...but never on DCL. He will probably "get it". I'll check out YouTube as well.

Thanks!

We requested one for our kiddos on two separate cruises and they did not call! So disappointing.

I set two calls up for my daughter to get her excited for our upcoming cruise. It was a recording but she appreciated nonetheless and couldn't wait to tell her friends/family about it.

Where do you live? There are a couple of states that for some reason it can't be initiated by DCL and you are giving a number to call. I agree, not quite as magical as having the phone ring and finding Mickey on the other end, but you can still hear the message. I'm not sure about international but I do believe it's possible in the UK or Canada, I just don't know the full process for those locations.

Enjoy your cruise!

Ours was about two weeks ago. No mention of which ship or destination. The call also came an hour before we requested so heads up for that possibility.

There are some states that restrict or completely ban robo calls, which is what the Character Calls are. While the legislation is mainly targeting political and telemarketing calls, it is the law of unintended consequences in action.

DO they leave a message if you are not there or is it a push 1 to here the message thing?

I am having them dial my cell phone and leave the message since we will already been on the road and the kids do not know we are heading on the cruise.

Unless it has changed recently, you have to actually answer and push a button (I think it's 1) to hear the special message. If the call goes to your voicemail or answering machine, you'll get a message about how to reschedule the call.

Enjoy your cruise!

We were home but didn't answer (since it was an hour early we didn't think it was the call we were waiting for). There was a message and then they called again immediately (before we had even tried to check the message).
