Character Breakfast...What do you think?

First time taking my 5 year old son to WDW. We want to do a couple breakfasts/lunches. Just wondering what you guys think about Chef Mickeys for Breakfast and Crystal Palace for Breakfast. Which characters are all at Crystal Palace? Does anyone know the price? I want to go to the Castle, but think it may be a little girly for my son. Let me know what you think.

I have never done Chef Mickey's, but the Crystal Palace is wonderful and is Pooh and Friends....Tigger, Piglet, Eyore....
Another favorite of mine is Restaurantorus at the Animal Kingdom. Donald is the host, and Mickey, Pluto and Goofy are all at that one. (Good for a boy...it is dinosaur theme!) I don't have children, and I love them! Also, I think that the whole CRT thing is insane! I have never done it, and probably never will, even with kids! From what I hear, if you are not on the phone at 7 am 30 days out to make your PS, you are out of luck...a little too much hoopla for me!

We did both the CP and CMickeys but for dinner on our last trip. I thought the character interaction was much better at Chef Mickeys. At the CP we never got to see Pooh bear and the others only came by really fast. At Chef Mickeys we saw everyone twice and they stayed and played around with the kids for a few minutes each time. At Chef Mickeys, Donald and Goofy were stationed at the front of the restaurant and Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale made the rounds. I liked it much better then the CP.

We have done both for breakfast over our last two trips and the felt the food was better at Crystal Palace as well as the Magic Kingdom atmosphere. Chef Mickey's was good, we just prfer CP now.

Of the ones you've listed our preference would be Crystal Palace. Our DS will be 4 this trip. Has been every year and sometimes twice since he was 13 months. Here are our favorite character meals/buffets:

1) Hollywood and Vine - MGM - Lunch - Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. The interaction here has ALWAYS been wonderful. The food is pretty good for a lunch buffet. The kids selections are run of the mill and satisfied my picky eater. They do a little dance periodically and get all the kids up with instruments, etc. in the middle of the restaurant. Pretty cute.

2) Grand Floridian - Park Fare 1900 - dinner - Pooh and friends - the food here is very nice especially for adults. The bread pudding with vanilla sauce is beyond words....only 45 days ... but who is counting. This place is a little noisy but we've always had good luck and interaction with the characters and good service.

3) Crystal Palace - MK - Breakfast/Lunch - Pooh and friends - We prefer breakfast here. The breakfast lasagna is very good. We really enjoy it.

4) Cape May - Beach Club - Dinner - This isn't a character dinner but we enjoy it. The kids can write on the tables and they have a good selection of seafood and regular food.

We did not care for Donald;s Breakfastaurous at AK but others have really like it. This is one of the only places where you can see Donald in a character meal. Chef Mickeys was okay but it just didn't do much for us. We haven't done CRT either because of the fact that my son isn't really keen on girls to begin with and Princesses just don't do anything for him. I'm sure in 12 years or so that will all change.

We just got back and really liked O'hanas at the Polynesian. The character interaction was great, the food was really good too and they have a cute parade around the each hour.

We prefer lunches over breakfast because we can easily grab breakfast as we get ready. After a character lunch we're so full we aren't interested in a big dinner. With that in mind, we really enjoyed CP for lunch, but Garden Grill is our favorite. We like to do a late lunch when crowds are thinner and the ratio of guests to characters is lower, equaling more character interaction.

You didn't mention when you were going, but CP is closed until mid-December. I missed it when we went a couple of weeks ago. The food is very good and I like the interaction with Pooh and his friends. Pooh has moved temporarily to Tony's Town Square for breakfast and lunch. I have not eaten at Tony's so I can't say anything about the restaurant.

We love donalds breakfastosaurus. It is a great meal for boys with the dionsaur theme.
CP breakfast is also very good for breakfast or lunch.
We also really enjoyed H&V for lunch and 1900 PF for dinner. We don't care at all for CM (dinner)

We have done a character bfast at Chef Mickeys a bunch of times. Always enjoyed it. They get fired up when Mickey comes out. As I rember you will see Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale & Goofy. Goofy will be in the greeting area & LOVES to mess up womens hair. Just a warning if you value your hairdo dont let Goofy too close. But rember this is Disney so who cares about hair.

I took my DS(5) to CRT, he LOVED IT!! He has loved girls since the day he was born (much to my dismay - I didn't think that started until he was a teenager??)

We walked in w/ no ressies (10 min wait) and walked out with his face covered in lipstick from all the Princesses having kissed him!!
Aladin even commented on it!

We also did breakfast at Hollywood & Vine, this was fun, food ok, great char interaction! (very loud).

He'll enjoy anywhere you take him!

I told my 9 yr old son that we had priority seating for Cinderella's on Christmas Eve at breakfast on Friday. He yelled "Whoopee!!" He loves eating there.

My DS's favorite is breakfastsarus with Donald Duck! It's still his favorite now at 10. We like CP and H&V too. We think the food is better at H&V but the charaters at CP were awsome!
BTW- DS also like eating at CRT, though he petended to not like the princess kiss at all.

my 13 DS really likes CRT too. The food and the fact it is sitdown outweights the fact that it is a princess meal.

I think those are two good choices...I very strongly recommend Chef Mickey's. It is classic Disney...excellent character intervention, good array of food and great atmosphere (for kids). It is a must for us when we go....our three small kids would feel robbed if we didn't do Chef Mickey's! Have fun!!
