We are going to Disney in January for the marathon and would like to do our first character meal. We do not plan on going to any parks on our first day so I thought a character breakfast would get our Disney fix in. Not being able to go to the parks limits our options and I think Grand Floridian has princesses. My son is a big no go on the princess factor. I saw Cape May at Beach Club and Ohana at Polynesian. Just looking for some input if you felt it was worth the money. Food good? Adequate time with the characters. I was leaning toward Chef Mickeys until I saw the awful reviews.

'Ohana or Cape May are good options. I'd give a slight edge to Cape May because it's a little out of the way and so a little more laid back.

I'm a big fan of both crystal palace (MK) and tusker house (AK). Chef Mickeys can be bad, but honestly breakfast would be the ideal time to go if you must do it. Very difficult to mess up breakfast. If he's into stitch, Ohana! 1900 Park fare I believe has alice and pooh too.

Park Fair has no princesses...they have Tigger, Pooh, Mary Poppins, and a few others...but no princesses.

My son is super excited about our upcoming Ohana reservation. We haven't been to that one yet, but had other character breakfasts on our last trip and they are pricey but I do think they are very worth it for the great character interactions.

Park Fare dinner has princesses. Breakfast has been Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Alice, Mad Hatter at least when I've been there.

We love Ohana. Food it typical breakfast fare- eggs, bacon, mickey waffles, etc… No buffet but they will bring you more of anything you want. (They have POG juice and a pineapple sweet bread as well.) Character interactions have been good whenever we have gone, and we usually feel it is worth the cost. We have gone later in the morning, not the 8 AM pre-park crowd, so I think that may help? We don’t feel rushed. If you are not doing a park that day, I would recommend going a little later when it may be less crowded.

Note Ohana and Cape May only have characters at breakfast, so if you are looking at dinner time, with no princesses, and outside of a park, Chef Mickey's may be your only option.

Thanks for all the replies. We are definitely looking at breakfast only character meals.

Depending on what day you're wanting, Garden Grove at the Swan/Dolphin (I forget which one) also has a non-princess character breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. I realize that might not be helpful, given marathon timing, but it's an option that hadn't been mentioned.

Among the other daily options -- 1900, 'Ohana, Chef Mickey and Cape May, I would lean toward Cape May as having the best food but 1900 as having the best character interactions, particularly as you've got some face characters with Poppins, Alice and the Mad Hatter, all of whom will talk to you. Haven't done 'Ohana breakfast, but the menu seems to be pretty limited (even if the food is good). It's pretty hard to mess up breakfast, even with a buffet (including Chef Mickey, who I'd rather visit in the morning if I ever visit him again), so if I'm going to pay Disney character dining prices at breakfast, I like the idea of having a full buffet at my disposal.

I, too, would recommend Garden Grove at the Swan if you can go on a Saturday or Sunday. The food is very good and they typically have Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. It's better prices than the WDW resort character meals and if you have a AAA card, you can get 20% off.

If that's not an option and you have a car the Four Seasons also has a character buffet with Mickey and Minnie that gets rave reviews.

Otherwise, I would do Cape May or 1900 depending on which characters you son wants to see. Quite honestly, the food at the WDW character breakfasts is all pretty lackluster. If it doesn't have to have characters, you may even want to consider Rainforest Cafe at AK. You don't need a park ticket to get in. Or even Boma at AKL, then see the animals on the savannah.

Interesting how "NO princesses!" is perfectly ok for a boy to say but if a girl said "NO WINNIE THE POOH!" we'd wonder what she was afraid of. Anyhow, Tusker House would be my #1 choice but if it can't be in the park, then Ohana would be a great choice, and so close to transportation.

Maybe you would wonder what she was afraid of, but many people would just think the kid did not like Pooh or was tired of seeing him everywhere else.

OP: Since you are looking for a character breakfast ADR that is located at a resort then you are fine with any of them. There are no princess breakfasts outside of the parks.

I have done 1900 Park Fare, 'Ohana, and Cape May for breakfast and I would do any one of them again. The best character interactions we had were 1900 Park Fare (Mad Hatter) and Cape May (Minnie). The food was decent at all there, but I preferred 1900 and Cape May for the buffet options. I like family style, but the options at 'Ohana were not my favorite as I am picky on how I like my scrambled eggs and sausage.

I have done the 1900 Park Fare breakfast. Liked it very much & would go again. He may get a kick out of the Mad Hatter!

The Cape May beach theme looks fun to try also!

We love 'Ohana, and I think it is the most boy-ish of the breakfasts I have done. I think the food is better than most of the character breakfasts, and I like that it is served family style rather than buffet. The food at 1900 Park Fare was perfect for DD and I, too, but we loved the items that are probably less kid-friendly like the bagels and lox and lobster eggs benedict.

We have another ADR for breakfast @ 1900 Park Fare. Tigger and Winnie the Pooh are great...Mary Poppins was a little perplexed by my work partner last year, however. She asked us "What brings you to breakfast." My partner said, "My Lexus." I laughed, our wives cringed, and Mary Poppins was left speechless and went to the next table.
