Last Sunday, my dd, Kelly, and I decided to enjoy the character breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe - Chip & Dale's Critter Breakfast. I called the Dine Line, and was able to get a 9:40 breakfast there
So we drove to the Grand Californian Hotel and got valet parking (5 free hours with breakfast
), and went to the restaurant. There were a lot of people hanging around waiting to be called, so we checked in, got our pager, and decided to explore a little (I wanted to see the spa). I think we were called in 15 minutes or so, and were quickly seated.
We didn't see Chip or Dale anywhere, but we did see Baloo in front greeting guests.
I told Kelly I'd like to take pictures of her with the characters, and she said, nope, wasn't going to do it. Not in the mood. (What did I expect? She's a teen!
)
So, I resigned myself to taking pics of the characters around the restaurant. I didn't see Chip & Dale, but I did see Rafiki.
At the Storyteller Cafe you get the choice of buffet or ordering off the menu. I had to check out the buffet line.
There were several choices, including made to order omelettes.
We decided to order off the menu. Kelly saw the eggs benedict & her eyes lit up. So she ordered it.
She dug right in. That's her favorite breakfast item. We also got orange juice as part of our breakfast.
I also saw my favorite breakfast item on the menu - Huevos Rancheros. I thought they would be maybe too 'Americanized' and bland, but they were delicious!
There didn't seem to be too many characters walking around, and I wondered if we had missed them or something. The food was good, though, so I resigned myself to just enjoying the delicious breakfast. Soon, though, Pluto came around and roamed the room, playing with guests. Here he is making some boys laugh. And then Koda came by. But we didn't see Chip or Dale.
Then we saw some type of ranger guy walking around. Kelly wondered why he was carrying fish around.
He came to our table, and explained that he was the Camp Counselor, and he carried fish around because of the bears. He was so silly and endearing he soon had both Kelly & me in stitches. He gave his own story for each of the pictures that were totally off, and just plain funny. We were cracking up.
Well, after a visit with the Camp Counselor, Kelly didn't mind taking pics with the characters, and :::gasp::: looked like she actually enjoyed it! She didn't get one with Chip and Dale, but there were a few encounters with other characters.
Kind of reminded me of that commercial with the sullen teen that they catch actually smiling on the Disney cruise, lol.
I noticed that the music was different, too. Usually, they play songs themed to the paintings hanging at the Storyteller Cafe, but for the Chip & Dale Critter Breakfast they were playing catchy tunes. Well, remember that song about the dog named Bingo (There was a farmer had a dog & Bingo was his name-o...) That came on & our Camp Couselor, Baloo, & Pluto came along to sing with our side of the room.
They were slapping those fish on the wall & tables when it was time to clap. Very entertaining, and most of the room got involved.
Though we didn't see Chip & Dale, even Koda got in the act and dancing with guests. (Kind of blurry, but Koda was dancing w/a little girl, and the father was going to join them with a young baby)

So, even though Kelly & I never saw Chip and Dale at the Chip & Dale Critter breakfast, we had a great time, and the food was really good. We gave this breakfast experience 4
and even a couple of big toes.
