Two questions....thought I would jam them together into one post.

1)If you wanted to do a character breakfast on your last day before jumping in the car to head home....where would you go? This would need to be at one of the resorts (not in the parks).

2)Has anybody done Hoop Dee Doo lately? The last time I went was in 1984 and I imagine it must be somewhat different. I'm trying to decide if DH and kids would enjoy it.

Thanks!

there are good charactures meals at chef mickeys and the beach club. you could also hit the artist point at the WL and on certain days olivias at OKW.

We did the hoop dee doo revue 3 years ago and then 2 years ago. the show was the same both times...absolutely fantastic!

1. Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club--you can't go wrong witht aht one.

2. Was there three months ago, it's still the same show and basically teh same food that it was the first time we did it back in '95.

O'Hana's, Chef Mickey's and Cape May are all listed as having character breakfasts.

Are these buffets? I think I would prefer it NOT to be a buffet but perhaps this is my only choice.

Is one any better than the other? The only character meal we have ever attended in the past was the pooh meal at the Crystal Palace and I wasn't thrilled with that.

We did the Hoop Dee Doo on Sunday 04/06. It's pretty good. The humour is really cheesy but a lot of fun. The food is ribs, fried chicken, bread, salad, beans, corn and stawberry shortcake. Plus all you can drink beer, wine or sangria.

I know you said that you would prefer not to have a buffet, but all the character breakfasts we've ever had have been buffets...that being said, the breakfast at the Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club Resort is the best we've ever had! The food is terrific and you eat with Goofy, Minnie, and Chip & Dale, all in their bathing suits! My daughter (3 1/2 years old ) loved it! My favorite selection is the bread pudding - awesome!

Have fun!

The only two that aren't buffets that I can think of are Cindy's and Garden Grill. Those are both family style.

'Ohanna at the Polynesian has a family style character breakfast.

Our first trip to HdD was in 1982 or 1983 and the show is almost exactly the same. A few jokes have changed but I think that's all. The food is basically the same too but they no longer serve the cheese and crackers or nacho chips. Corn is still served but not on the cob. We last went 12/31/02. We enjoy it as much as ever and go to it every 2-3 years.

I'll add another thumbs up for the cheesiest show in Disney that you just have to see every few years - the Hoop! I've been 5 times since I was a child! DH and I were just there in December to celebrate our honeymoon - we were the only honeymooners there, with about 4 other couples celebrating their anniversaries. It was a wee bit embarrassing but ultimately fun to dance to "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" in a room chock full of strangers! It was DH's first time there, and I didn't tell him about the dancing, so he was really taken by surprise!
Whew, I'm hungry for strawberry shortcake now! Go figure!

We just did Hoop-dee-doo in January- loved it! I don't know if it was the same as another time, as it was the first time that we did it but it was a lot of fun & the food was pretty good too. On our last day we always do a hotel character breakfast & mini golf. (we used to do that before we got AP's & it doesnt really matter but we didn't used to want to waste a day on a hopper for a breakfast.) Ohana's is family style, & the costumes on the characters are really cute. But out of all of them I'd probably say that I like Cape May the best- I don't mind buffet, personally you have more options & you don't have to wait for a waiter to get your food for you. The Swan has one too-- Garden Grove. It's not Disney run but from what I've heard it's pretty good- & if you go to either Cape May or Garden Grove you are right by the mini golf & the boardwalk which is always a fun place to go with out entering a park!

We saw the Hoop De Doo in June '02. First time for us. Loved it. Verrrry cheesy, but it's supposed to be. I am pretty sure it is exactly unchanged since it started in the early 70's. They have cast photos on the walls going back to then and including every year since. I think that's the attraction. We wouldn't go again in the near future but I can see wanting to re-live it 10 years from now.

I was pleased by the quality of the dinner and the strawberry shortcake was really good... also the largest cup of coffee I have ever had - I practically needed all the cream to cool it down.

Very cheesey show.... but fun for everyone

OK, the HDDR is booked!

Now, on these character breakfasts....it seems like Cape May is preferred by many of you over Chef Mickey's.

Tell me about the food quality and which characters are there. I looked on a couple of sites where they list the characters but not the "theming" (as in "they're wearing bathing suits"). Tell me about the other character breakfasts too.

Thanks for putting up with my endless questions!

Glad to hear so much good stuff about the Cape May breakfast cause we have ressies for it for the last Saturday in May! Now, can someone tell me the best way to get there in a car--coming from FW--and where to park and all cause we've never been there!!

As breakfast buffets go in Disney, this one is pretty good. Cape may has a big buffet & I didn't notice anything acceptionally good- or bad. It's a lot of fun- the characters look like they're going to the beach, Minnie is all dressed up for the sun, you walk into the 1st room to take your picture with her & they rest of the characters come to your table. Goofy was SOOOO funny there, he took an apron off of a waitress & tied my BF to his chair- it was great we got great pictures too- & then my boyfriend went to give him a high five & he put out his hand to ask for a tip! It was so funny! Ohana was cute too- I love when the characters are dressed up so I'm partial to those! They are wearing hawiian shirts & hula skirts- we were there in January & it was SO empty, it looked like it would be a lot of fun with a lot of people. It's family style, which isn't my favorite, I feel like I'm being a pest when I specifically ask for more of one thing- that's just me though & I didn't like the bread they had there- its pineapple or something but my BF loved it. 1900 park fare was probably our least favorite. Too quiet for our taste, not very memorable in our book, but everyone has their own opinion. Our first time around at Chef mickey's we LOVED it! But the second time, when we were looking so forward to it it wasn't so great. First of all the first time we were in a circle table in the corner all to ourselves & it was so nice not having to listen to other peoples conversations & we were facing the whole room, the second time we were sitting on a long line of half booth half chair tables, totally squished & all of the stuff was to my back the whole time, so that was a factor & the first time our waiter was SO much fun! We took pictures with him, he conspired with my BF to bring cake out for my birthday even when he knew it wasnt! Even though It was a buffet I think we left about a $50 tip for him because he made our time there SO much fun, that we wanted to say thank you. You could tell how much he loved his job & making people smile & they say to only tip 10% for buffets, but he was unbelievable. The second time our waitress was nothing to write home about, which I think makes a big difference. Any others you were looking for info on? Hope this helps a little to answer your questions! Have fun!

Sonya,

The character breakfast at the Cape May Cafe is terrific! We've been to WDW twice and have eaten there both times, both before and after we had our DD, who is almost 4 years old. The theme is the beach, and Goofy, Minnie, Chip and Dale are all in their bathing suits - cute! Chip and Dale are really cute together, pretending to pull on my DD's pigtails and making me get up and dance cheek-to-cheek with Chip (or was it Dale?)! Fun!

The food is delicious - my favorite is the bread pudding with vanilla sauce - I remembered it from our 1st visit, and it was just as good on our 2nd trip. Then of course they have scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, biscuits w/gravy, waffles (or French toast), a breakfast pizza, a fruit station, and a station of sweet and savory breads, doughnuts, danishes...there's no way you could taste everything without exploding!

Everyone raves about the character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian, but since we had already had 2 of them, we decided against a 3rd. Maybe this year...
