we're scheduled to be at WDW from april 3-10th w/ 2.5+ and 6 yr old.

We were planning on 3 character breakfasts: Mon, Wed, Fri (crystal palace, ohana, cape may). Do you think that is too many? Do you think 2 would be enough?

My DH is also thinking of doing a late (7:30pm) dinner at Chef Mickeys. I was thinking we should pass on this?

What do you all think?

I don't think it is too many, and I would do Chef Mickey's! Mals are a great time for Mom and Dad to sit and relax a little while the kids are thrilled with the characters. My DD's never tire of the character meals. We tend to do more dinner and lunches though, to help break up the day. We normally only do one breakfast at Cape May because we usually stay in that area.

It all depends on your family. Do you usualy like to wake up early and we ready for the breakfasts, or would you like a few days to sleep in and do things a little slower.

We were there for 10 days and had planned on 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners and buy the time our 4th character meal came around we were a little worn out by the whole thing. Granted it could have just been that we had been there for 8 days aready and just wanted to do things on our own time by then?????

I think next time we may cut it down to only one breakfast and one dinner. I hope this helps :earsgirl:

We like to have one character breakfast (then we also do hoop de doo revue one evening...no characters though). We have found one character breakfast is plenty for us, it takes time from the parks. We like a quick breakfast and hit the rides :) We dont' want too many "scheduled activities", it breaks up our day too much. But you have to do what is best for your crew...have fun!

We did all three princess events last trip, by the third my DD was bored with them, and DS (1yr) was literally snarling at them. He wasn't into hugging and had figured out their hair was not real and it would move.
Having said that, on our Oct '04 trip DD will be 6.5yrs and DS almost 3. DD already wants to eat in the castle, and DS wants to dine with Pooh. (Don't get me started on the lack of Breakfasts for boys, bring back the Villian Breakfast) Both want Donalds breakfast at AKL. This time we will be there almost 10 days instead of 6 so this is doable. As for the dinner, we do our big dinner the first night at the resort before the parks. We found that when we go to the parks by 7:00 both kids are wasted with no attention span remaining.

In the end you know them best. I have to admit the mornings we did the breakfasts we seemed to have more energy for the parks.

I consider one character meal too many. We haven't done any in our past couple of trips, and our kids (DD15, DS8, DS5) don't miss them. My younger kids do not eat much, sometimes DS5 nothing at all at mealtime, so I thought it was a waste of $. Sometimes the characters are good and spend time with your table, at other times they are rushed. Then I find myself waiting expectantly for them, wondering when they are going to come around. But I know I'm in the minority on this one, because everyone seems to have at least one character meal, if not many!

I don't think you have too many, even if you include Chef Mickey's, as long as it is not inconvenient for you to be at that particular location. You have to eat anyway, and it is always fun to have the characters. I think there is no charge for your 2yo, and kids are about half price. I am planning three character meals for our six day trip (me, DS12, DD21). We love them! We have done Chef Mickey's twice, Ohaha (will probably do that one again), and we might be trying Crystal Palace this time. We usually do counter service the rest of the time to balance out the cost of the meals.

On our last trip in December we did three meals, and probably could have done more. The kids loved them!!! We did breakfast at Cape May, since we were staying at BCV, and we did dinners at Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's.

I would definitely do Chef Mickey's if you can. It was really fun for the kids, and the food selection was great. They also periodically played some music, and the kids were able to get out an dance with characters who were in their area.

i would appreciate anyones advice/opinion about our plans. We will be at MK on tuesday 4-6. Gmom wants to eat lunch at the castle and made PS arrangements. We already made dinner arrangements at Crystal palace. Lunch is 1:30 and dinner is 6:30. Too much , too close? And 1 Trailsend breakfast buffet on Wed. Where is that anyway? Is it IN Ft wilderness Lodge? or does it have it own building in the campground?

mom2cookies - I say keep your plans for tues. We have eaten lunch there before. The food is hot and good and it helped to solve the mystery of whats really up there. If you get a good table you will enjoy the view. My view was of the elevator door. It was probably due to our family of 5. By the time they seat you at crystal palace it will be about another 10-15 mins. You have a great plan as that will be a very busy time. We will be there that day too. I dont know where you are staying but I think the easiest most non confusing way to get to trails end is to get a boat to fw from the mk. Then you just follow the signs and walk a little way from the marina. We have done dinner there, not breakfast. A good value, nothing fancy.

Mom2Cookies - I usually only schedule one ps meal per day, but since Gmom wants to have lunch in the castle I don't see a real problem.

And Trails End is in Fort Wilderness near the Marina ... I agree with LuvMaryPoppins that taking the boat from MK to FW is the easiest way to go depending on what time you need to be there.

The FW-WL-MK boat starts running about 1/2 half before MK opens. Otherwise you can drive to FW, park in parking lot and take an internal FW bus from the parking lot to Trails End ... or get a bus from your resort to FW, then take the internal FW bus.

we usually do quite a few character meals, but decided after our last trip to make them lunchs or dinners in the future rather than breakfast. We found we were getting to the parks, all excited to do something and then having to immediately stop for an hour an eat, when we'd rather grab something quick and get on with the park.

Saying that, we do love the meals, and I think it's a great way for the kids to see the characters, so we will still do them, just later on in the day.

We go for 2 weeks, and will probably do 4 meals.
