My daughter will be auditioning in Feb and we have a few questions....

Where exactly are the auditions?
How long will it last? She believes they start at 4:00 but what if she gets picked?
What exactly does the audition consist of?

Hi! Just a brief summary here on the DIS for those who don't click on links.........lol

The audition consists of an animation ("acting"/improv) portion to demonstrate your ability to act without talking and with exaggerated motions, as well as a dance portion. There is also an advanced dance portion, which they will pull you for after you perform the initial dance if they think you look qualified. In terms of how long it is, that varies. I auditioned in Rochester last October, and there was about 40 people there. I was #10, and I would say I was there about 2 hours. However, if you go to one of the bigger locations (Orlando, probably San Fransisco) I've heard of at least 100 people, and it may take longer. At my audition we did the animation portion first, then the dance, but I've heard that at some they do the dance, then make a cut, then do the animation portion.

The auditions cities are located at the CP website; once the time comes closer (in about a month or so) they will post dates, times and official locations within the city where the auditions will be.

- YOu find the auditions on the CP site.
-Be prepared for a loooooooooooooooooong day. Get there early so you can be in one of the first groups. I think my first audition took two hours. My second one took 6. If she gets called back, it will be longer.

The audition consists of a dance and animation routine. Your daughter will be taught a dance that is several counts of eight. Normally very simple with traditional moves such as jazz squares. If they have a specific show they are trying to cast they may use moves from that show or a style of dance similar to that show. You will also be given an animation routine. Animation is your ability to tell a story without talking. They will give you a scenario and some suggestions on how to animate it. They will then give you the opportunity to practice. (The instruction is typically groups of about 30 depending on the size of the audition space). They will then run through it several times. The order is typically dance/animation/dance/animation.

Everybody will leave the room and they will call you back in groups of about 4-6 depending on the number of judges. You go through it twice and then wait. They may do puppeteering call backs. If they do and you are called back that is normally a good sign. If they do and you are not, that is normally a bad sign unless you are short, in which case you are out of height range. They will also do an advanced movement call back if they think that your daughter has good dancing ability. Although I performed in many parades and shows on property, I was never called back for the advanced routine. So not getting called back for the movement routine does not mean anything at all.

I did the audition in Orlando when they offered CPs to extend their program, so that audition was JUST CPs.

We did the dance first, then they cut people (I was cut after the first dance) and then they did advanced dance and the animation part.

okay. my audition is this thursday in orlando and im freaking out. this is the only time i can audition because im still in school. i dont graduate until may. is it completely pointless for me to even audition??

just expect some magic and everything will turn out supercalifragilisticexpialidocious :hippie:

p.s. - good luck. :hippie:

I thought the audition was April 8th? Unless this audition is for FT or PT?
