Changing your reservations - a poll

I just posted on the thread about AP rates being gone, and it made me wonder. For years I didn't even know that AP rates could re-open up as people cancelled and changed reservations (thanks to someone on these boards, I learned to call back and that "no rates available" didn't mean forever! )

Are we all double booking and/or booking knowing we will be changing our reservations? Is this the reason that the AP rates seem to disappear so quickly?

I book once we know when we want to go and where we want to stay which is usually about 1 year in advance. I book the room I want and that I know I can afford whether the rate goes down or not. If a code comes out great, it not, I know I will be where I want to be and I know that I can afford it, that way there is no disappointment of not being where I origianally booked or where I want to be and no disappointment over no codes or ap rates.

I do the same thing. This way if there aren't any codes or AP rates released, I still have a room I'll be happy with.

Are we really not double booking all that much -- or do we not want to admit it?

Is double booking considered fair game or bad form?

I think there's lot of people who double book but it's definitely bad form! More importantly it actually reduces the number of rooms released to discount codes which in turn reduces your chances of getting a discount!

When you book a room, you're helping to meet whatever occupancy rate they want to meet before releasing codes. By booking a room you're definitely not going to use ( and you definitely will not use both) you're artificially inflating the occupancy rate. Higher occupancy rate, less discount codes available.

It also makes no sense whatsoever. Why double book? You have to pay 2 deposits and you don't accomplish anything. If there's a resort you're only going to stay at if a code comes out, booking it in advance does nothing to insure that you will get a discount once they're out. You're on the same footing as someone who has no reservation at all.

We book the resort we want to stay at and watch for AP or code rates. If you want a particular resort, I don't see any other sensible way of doing it.

I agree with Cindy and disneyjunkie.... although I just within the past 2 years got the code thing down, I have never and would never double book. I guess for me it doesn't make sense. We know where we want to stay regardless of whether we get a better price.
