Why would May or July be bad and April and June would be ok?

They aren't bad, it's just that Disney doesn't have a May or July use year..

As for picking a use year, I think it works best if you can pick a use year where you are almost always using your points within the first few months of your use year.

One thing that other members have observed is that usage patterns do change over the years--example you may have to vacation during the school holidays when the kids are little, but then they go off to college and you can vacation anytime! So, you just can't cover every scenario--you have to make your best guess at the time.
