Changing to Split Stay

Quick question regarding how to plan for a split stay. I have a reservation booked at RIV in a standard studio for May 4-11. I want to change this to a split stay to go to a different resort if available for May 8-11.

Is there a way to modify this reservation in 1 step at 7 month to change the last few nights?

My thought would be to split the current reservation into 2 separate, but there are no nights available for the dates in standard view so I don’t think I can do this.

Unfortunately, you cannot modify a reservation in a single step to drop nights at one resort and add those nights at another. The best way to do a planned split stay, as you've discovered, is to book your home resort as a split stay from the beginning.

If you have enough spare points to book the last night (5/10) at the non-home resort, you can book it at 7 months. Then drop the last night from RIV. Go back and modify the other reservation to add the night of 5/9. Then drop the 9th from RIV. Repeat the process adding 5/8 to the other reservation and then dropping it from the RIV reservation. Of course, this assumes that all nights at the other resort remain available while you wait for the 7-month window to open for 5/10. The process works better when you are switching out the first nights instead of the last.

I booked this reservation using a combination of 2021 banked points and 2022 points. I can book this room using 2022 points and I currently have 94 points.

It sounds like I can use those 94 points to book the room and then modify the nights out of the RIV reservation. But then, how do I change the points around so that the banked points from 2021 get used? Do I just do another 'modify' but not change anything?

Whenever you modify a reservation, the first points to be freed up will be from your current allocation of points. The banked points will always remain with the RIV reservation unless not all of them are needed.

If the RIV reservation does not use all of the banked points after you complete the booking for your split stay, just modify the other reservation again without changing anything. This should reallocate any leftover banked points to that reservation and free up current points.
