Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to have your seats changed when you get to the airport. We have two seats next to each other, that is nice, but would like to have an emergency row (DH thinks its a "safer" spot to be). We do not fly alot, but was wondering if this was possible.

Thanks

The exit row seats normally can only be assigned at the airport. If your there early enough and they have exit seats available then yes you can change. You have to be over 15, and willing/able to open the exit door in case of emergency. These seats have a little more room, but in most cases do not recline.

It depends on the airline. Some airlines (Continental, for one) reserve those seats for their frequent flyers. Some hold them for gate assignment.

Not sure how much "safer" it is to sit in an exit row. More legroom, perhaps. Just be aware that if you do choose to sit in an exit row, please read the materials there so that if you are called upon to do something (remove the windows, etc.) you can help make everyone safer.

Actually the emergency row seats recline, it's the ones in front of the emergency row that don't.

If they are still available when you get to the airport, then yes, you can change. But as others have pointed out, they are generally reserved for the frequent fliers.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. How's that for prevarication?

Of there's room sure. If the flight is full you are stuck. Ask nicely and smile a lot either way. I wouldn't work for an airline at an airport on a bet! What a stressful job. Those poor people get a lot of abuse.

If there are 2 exit rows, the first row may have limited or no recline so as not to interfere with the exit row behind. Even if this is the case, the extra legroom helps to make up for it. Check out www.seatguru.com

If the exit row seats haven't already been reserved for frequent flyers, getting to the airport early may help. It has worked for me in the past flying on Spirit out of Atlantic City.
