Am booking a day by day trip for Dec. Have a Dec. UY & will be using that year's points (none banked). Got a studio for first 4 days of trip by could only get 1BR for last day....I asked MS to waitlist me for a studio & she did. I asked if that would be for up to 31 days prior & she said no that she would put it for 7 days so as to up my chances of getting the studio. I asked if a studio came available & we changed from the 1BR wouldn't those points go into holding & she said NO not as long as it was on the same ressie.

Have I got wrong info? Am calling back tomorrow but thought I'd check here first.

I would double check this information. I had an OKW studio and went on a wait list for BCV studio. I got the BCV studio within 31 days so they cancelled the OKW studio and put those 8 points in holding. They used 12 "new" points for the BCV reservation. MS was correct in what they did since I had a reservation cancelled within 31 days. I just figured they would use the OKW points and add 4 points but that's not what happened. It's a slightly different scenario from yours but close enought to warrant further inquiry to clarify your particular situation.

We had a WL come thru literally the day before our trip. It was a change from a Preferred View to a BW view for the same size unit, so no change in # of points. However, our online record clearly showed that the points for the cancelled room became holding points, which was no problem since those points were used to immediately book the new BW view room.

If you get to the 31 day mark without your WL coming thru, I would check with MS again on this issue before you decide to keep the WL. Best of luck -- Suzanne

I called the other day to try to waitlist an OKW studio from my current studio reservation at SSR. She said she would put a "stop" on the request a 30 days before my reservation to avoid any points going into holding. This seems to be consistent with our Vacation Planner 08-09 on page 14

I do not know.

However, I've been told that the points in your scenario would go into holding. It's my understanding that's the whole point of cutting off the waitlist at the 30-day mark, so they won't automatically put points into holding.

The CM was incorrect. If a waitlisted night takes less points than the night being canceled, the "extra" points will go into the holding account if the waitlist comes through after the 31 day mark. That is the reason you have to request to stay on the waitlist past the 31 day mark n the first place - the possibility of having returned points go into holding.

There's no need to worry about it right now. Obviously, if the waitlist comes through before the 31 day mark, there is no harm done.

My advice to the OP is to mark your calendar for the 32 day mark (to give yourself a little "slack", LOL) and if the waitlist hasn't come through by then, you can call to cancel the waitlist or you make a conscious decision to "eat" the points if it does come through between 31 and 7 days. Might be worth the extra points to avoid moving. Good luck!
