Changing resorts during a stay

Has anybody changed resorts during a 6 day stay at Disney. I was thinking of staying 3 nights at a moderate resort like the Port of Orleans and then upgrading to Animal Kingdom or Wilderness Lodge for 3 nights. Any thoughts?

we changed resorts during our 6 night stay in may (from pop to poly) and it wasn't hard at all. They move all your luggage for you-- it's real easy, and we were lucky and got to check-in our rooms very early!

We usually stay at a couple resorts when we go. Mainly to save DVC points. It's not that big a deal to switch. Disney moves your luggage for ya. Just pack up and have them pick up your luggage in the morning, go off to enjoy a park, then return to your new resort to check in that afternoon. Even though it's not too much of a hassle, I prefer to stay in one place and get settled in.

Yes, I have switched after three nights to a new place. It's very easy to switch, and fun because it feels like your vacation is starting over again!

I think your plan sounds great! Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter are both wonderful resorts, and then you'd be ending your stay with a deluxe hotel which would be very relaxing :cloud9: And Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are both great choices.

Have fun :earsgirl: :earsboy: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

We did CR for 3 days and then AKL for 3 days , and it was no problem at all..They took care of transferring our luggage and we went to the park. They said they were happy to do it and it was not a problem. Everything was fine!

Been there, done that. It was just too much of a hassle, for me, despite how easy Disney does make it.

We have switched resorts. Without our own transportation, I don't think we'll do it again. The difficulty is two-fold. First, you don't know when your room will be ready. (Our room at WL at the end of July was not ready until after 5 pm., and we were hot and tired.) Second, there is no way to know when your luggage will arrive if you rely on Disney. (We were told that our bags could be at WL as early as 1 or as late as 6, but there was no telling ahead of time when the actual delivery would be. Ours arrived at WL around 4 pm.) This isn't so bad for adults, but it's no fun with children along.

I agree with Ladyhawke10 -- changing resorts is like starting another vacation. We do it every trip.

We do it all the time! We have an autistic son so we try to concentrate on one area at a time. We do a MK resort for three days and on the fourth morning we have our bags switched over and have a relaxing breakfast. Then we drive over to an Epcot resort and pre-register. sometimes our room is ready and if not we go to Epcot until it is ready. It has worked out great every time.

We always change resorts, I even did it on a four night trip. We love checking out new Disney resorts, or going back to favorites. It also allows us to be closer to parks (e.g., visit MK while at WL, visit Epcot while in Boardwalk area). The only draw back is you must pay one night's deposit for each resort reservation.
