Changing resorts after 3 nights to best use discount code?

I do not have a code yet, but am hopeful that one will come out very soon that will cover our January 2-7 nights, would like it to cover Jan 1 too but that may not happen. So to best use out budget I was pondering arriving in Disney on 12/30 and staying 12/30-1/1 at a value resort and then from 1/2/12-1/7/12 switching resorts and staying at AKL, hopefully club level.

Having never switched resorts during a stay, we have switched rooms at the same resort on day 2 due to location, what should I expect and is this a smart idea to be considering?
