changing resort reservation with discount

We booked last October for 6n5d with regular dining plan at Pop. We got the free dining promotion. We were interested in upgrading to moderate resort so today I checked online and there is availability at CSR so I called to see what the price difference would be to change our reservation. They told me that there was no availability for us to change to any moderate resort. Is this because we have the free dining and that promotion already ended so they can't change our reservation? Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!

Well I just called back in to make sure I didn't get a CM that didn't know what they were talking about and was told that every resort has a certain # of free dining promo rooms. Once those rooms are filled noone can change their ressie from another resort with the free dining promo. They said they would be more than happy to put us into one of the available rooms but we would lose our free dining promo. Please let me know if this sounds right. I think we will be happy with our stay at Pop though. Thanks in advance!

It sounds right to me. They don't let you keep a specific discount if there are no promo rooms available to change into with that discount.

One time I was looking for a promo at a deluxe: I could stay 11-16 if I wanted free dining, I could stay 8-14 if I wanted discounted room rate, etc. They have specific inventories of promos. This doesn't apply to you but.....Sometimes it's best to call and ask an agent about specific promos rather than looking online because if you don't put in just the right dates for the room and promo you want, it will come up as 'unavailable' if you are off by just one day.

This is true. Each resort only opens up a certain number of rooms for each promo. Once those rooms are booked that particular promo is no longer available for that resort. In the past we've booked either a value or a moderate for free dining and then tried to switch to another resort after the promo ended. Sometimes we've been able and sometimes we haven't. I know once we tried to upgrade from POP to CSR. The CM said there were no more free dining rooms at CSR, but she'd check the other moderates. She came back and said the only moderate that still had free dining rooms available was CBR.
