Changing resort reservation due to cancelled flight

I am just wondering in case this happens to us. We booked a magical vacation with a travel agent for 5 nights at YC and than 4 nights at GF at the end of August. If our flight was cancelled and we had to fly out the next morning and wanted to add a day on to the end of our vacation, would Disney allow us to do this? I am assuming if our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get a flight until the next morning that Disney would not refund us for the first night of our trip? Also, since we booked thru a travel agent and this happened, could I talk to Disney directly about this situation? What if I can't get in touch with the travel agent and this happens? Just wondering because it doesn't seem uncommon for the airline to cancel a flight daily for some reason.

Talk with the travel agent about what happens on their end.

If there's availability Disney will let you book. There's likely no way to add to your actual reservation though. It would just be a stand alone reservation. But there has to be availability.

I'm it sure that it's that common for flights to be cancelled. If there's a reason like weather, sure, but as long as the airplane made it to you airport there aren't that many reasons for it to be cancelled. Track the weather and check the airline and airport websites as your trip approaches to see if something is going on. Better to get out early than later, imo.

If the cost is less, they may charge an admin fee, but we've changed our dates before by one day with no issues.

I honestly don't know as we never book last minute. We usually book a BB for this time a year with FD. But we were unsure if we were going to go. So the past two years we used the same TA last year we stayed at the poly. I just booked this week so there was nothing at the Poly we could of gotten another monorail resort. but I choose AKL. I do know they aren't as easy to get a hold of as disney is.

I believe you must talk to the travel agent about the existing reservation. They own it until you actually check in. Disney won't talk to you about it. If you are simply a "No Show " that first nigh they cancel the entire reservation. You need to ask the agency if they have an emergency number that you can call in that case.
As far as adding a night on, you can do that yourself but if it is available I would expect it to be at rack rate, not the agency rate

Thank you all for the great advice. I will email the travel agent to ask her "what if" happens. I know a few times I have emailed her, I got an automatic reply stating she was on vacation, so I just want to be prepared in case. For some reason it does seem like JetBlue does cancel flights to Orlando at least 3 times per week for the airport we are flying out of (the have 8 flights per day). Today they cancelled a flight (9am) and it is not weather related because the flight after that at 11 is not cancelled or delayed. I just want to be prepared in case. The flight we are taking out at 1pm, had a 9 hour delay 2 days ago, got in at 1am. It seems always to be delayed also. Next time I will book the 6am flight, seems to have the least delays.

I travel a lot for work. In the summer time flights often get delayed or cancelled due to storm cells, especially in the afternoon. I'd book early morning flights if I could every time.

If it's a magical vacation through a TA, the TA will have to help you as those reservations are made through the WDW groups department and you won't be able to contact them. Typically, in out-of-office replies, people list a back-up you can call in case of emergency. If that isn't an option, in an emergency, call the agency's main phone line. Until you check-in, only the TA will be able to adjust your reservation. If it's the GF reservation you want to adjust, you will have a few days to deal with it as it looks like you are checking in there 5 nights after your flight.

yout TA will ave to deal with it- disney won't talk with you if you used a ta - one of the many reasons not to use them
Maybe you have many reasons, but I have also used that same TA and for me this is a minor reason, to save a good amount of $$$. I have yet to find any issues with using our TA, she has always gotten back to me on the same day. They beat every deal I can find through WDW, orbitz etc.
OP, I had the same type of issue, we always drive and on check-in day we had van issues, we called WDW and they did talk to us and when we said we would not be able to make it until the next day, they said that our room is secure and they ended up giving us a credit for that 1st night. I am guessing since it was check-in day that they had no issues not dealing with a TA.

That is good news. Thank you. The travel agent I am using is very nice and does get back to me but I do know she has a family and vacations, so I just didn't want to get stuck if I needed to make any adjustments to the room. Also, we are getting deluxe resorts for a little more than the price of moderate resorts and we really enjoy them a lot more.

We still seem to pick the Mods, because even the TA exclusive deals the Mods still come in much more cheaper then the deluxes. We just booked POFQ for $180 per night less then BC over turkey week, not to mention when was the last time you saw WDW discount POFQ 32% off rack.

I used to work at the Disney Reservations Center. While it is true that Disney Cast Members can't make changes to a reservation made by a Travel Agency, there are exceptions. For example, if a flight cancelation happens and you are unable to reach anyone at the Travel Agency, please call Disney. Explain the situation to the first Cast Member you get and politely ask to speak to Guest Services. Guest Services will verify the flight cancelation and work with you to make necessary changes.

Important: Always call your Travel Agent first. The first thing Guest Services will probably do is to call the Agency to verify that they don't have a 24/7 on-call agent exactly for those types of situations.

We go during late August and get great labor day special or else we would be going to the mods also.
