Changing resort at 7 months

I'd like to change our reservation to a different resort at 7 months and I am worried about accidentally cancelling it all together. Normally I would just try to be on the phone with member services when they open but hearing about the wait times make me think that won't be the best use of my time if I can just do it online. Should I be able to modify the resort in my reservation without cancelling and rebooking? I was playing with the modification on my reservation and this note was there:

Trying to select a different Resort destination? You may be unable to make that modification online. However, you can cancel your existing reservation and then make a new reservation for your preferred Resort. Or, you can call Member Services at (800) 800-9800 for assistance.

Are there certain types of modifications you just can't do online?
Any comments from anyone who has done this before would be helpful. And after what time in the am can I do this?

For our trip last January, I was able to modify the reservation to the new resort online. We did a split stay and I had no problem making the change for the second reservation.

You should use the modify reservation section online, which can be used to change resorts and also dates if desired. While attempting to modify, the original reservation does not get lost until you succeed in confirming the modification you want, and even then, while on that last page after completing the modification, you can still reverse it by wiping out the modification you have made which, if done, returns you to your original reservation.

To add, a modification is all or nothing. So, if you decided a split stay would be okay, don’t modify because it will replace your current nights with the shortened nights.

If you were trying to modify your existing reservation to book a different resort for the same dates, and you're not quite at the 7 month window yet, that might explain the note you're seeing. You might need to play with modifying to different dates, different room sizes, etc. at your home resort instead, or try to modify to a different resort but for dates inside the 7 month window.

Thank you everyone! Tuesday is my 7 month window and I've been playing around with the modification tool so I feel a little better about trying it myself. If we stay at OKW or I find something else to switch to, we are going to have a great trip either way. I'll let youn know how it turns out.

I ended up pushing our trip back one day and moving our week to BCV. The (adult) kids are pretty happy about that since its the last week of Food and Wine. It was pretty easy to do on my own. Good luck to the rest of you!

Our trip earlier this month, I was able to modify it online without any issues at 7 months.
