We are booked at Pop for the free dining promotion in May. I have been calling for a week to see about changing to a moderate (any moderate) and i'm not having any luck. Always before when we made changes to our package after the discount expired, we had to go through Guest Services to do so. Well, each time I call, the CM that answers says it's not necessary to talk to GS. They assure me if changes can be made they can do it. And each time i'm told that there are NO hotels I can switch to at any level (value, mod, deluxe).
Are they correct, that GS no longer has to be the ones to do the switch after a promo expires? And if that's not correct, how on earth do I get them to switch me to GS? They are all refusing up to this point.
Thanks for any insight you can give :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure that they CMs can make the changes. It's been a long time since I changed anything after expiration, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't talk to GS. It may be that there really aren't any free dining rooms available in any other resort for exactly your dates. I'd keep trying though. Good luck.

I am booked for free dining in September and called last week and was able to upgrade to a moderate. At first I was told it was not possible and then the agent put me on hold and did a little research. She came back and advised she would need to contact Guest Services. It took a few minutes but no problems! I would call back and speak to someone else.:confused3

I just called today about the same exact thing (upgrade from POP to moderate on Free Dining). I was just curious and not ready to upgrade. The CM said that as long as there were free dining rooms at the mods available, I would not lose the free dining and could upgrade. As long as you get the right CM on the phone, you shouldn't have an issue.

Just to let you know, I had to cancel my free dining promo last week. It was for the last week in May @ CBR. I will call back if I was you.

We actually switched our trip a couple of times. We were originally scheduled from 1/23-1/29 but had to change because DH got a new job. That one was before the Free Dining promo expired on 12/20 - we changed with no problems to 3/1-3/7.

Then 2 weeks ago we had to change again because of a family conflict - we were able to change by speaking to a wonderful CM (for about 45 minutes to work things out), and we booked 2/27-3/5 with free dining, however the free dining promo rooms were not available at our original resort (CSR), only at POR, so we booked it.

Well, DH had his heart set on staying at CSR, so I kept trying. I checked online every day, twice a day, using rack rates and any other promo online, to see if anything was available at CSR. Low and behold, I found something on Monday. I quickly called Guest Services (didn't want to take any chances), and we were able to make the change, kept the free dining promo, and got our favorite resort - CSR.

BUT, all during the time we were trying to change from 3/1-3/7 to 2/27-3/5 I was hard pressed to find any Moderate rooms available at all, under any promotion, on the WDW website. So, definitely keep trying!!

Good luck.

Would this apply to adding another room, also?
We have one room booked at the Pop Century for August 21st thru August 27th ,2011 with the free dining. Possibly my nephew and his family will be going down also. Can I just get an additional room ,since the intial room was booked before Dec 20th when the code ended? :goodvibes

I spoke with a CM on Friday about extending our dates for two days and no problem. I also asked if I could switch from POR to two rooms at Pop if we ended up bringing a family friend. She said I could do that as long as there was availability at the resort. I did find it encouraging that even though the promotion has ended, there was still room at POR for additional days. Makes me think there might be more at other resorts as well. I would try calling and asking.

Thanks everyone for this info. I was wondering if it was possible. Due to this last crazy snowstorm I am probably going to have to bump our vacay back a few days to June 2nd which was the last day of free dining.
