Changing reservations/resorts...difficult?

So, we're about to take the plunge and buy into SSR. We plan to finance through Disney, so resale at another resort is not currently an option. My question is this:

DW and I would LOVE to take a short (3 days, maybe?) trip during the F&W festival at Epcot every year or 2. Obviously, we'd really like to spend that time at one of the boardwalk area DVC locations. Is it possible (and, is it likely?) that we could book SSR 11 months out for dates during F&W; then attempt to switch to a boardwalk area DVC at 7 months IF there are any openings?

I know F&W is a tough time to book. Has anyone done this? Is it even okay to switch locations after booking at your home resort?

Absolutely. We did the same thing last year - booked SSR, then called at the 7 month date and requested BCV. We were waitlisted (studio), but it came through about 40 days before we were supposed to leave, and we did a "split stay". Just be sure you're OK with staying at your home resort, if your waitlist doesn't come through.

Oh, and it's very easy to switch after you've made reservations. I did it this morning - had booked at SSR, and today was the 7 month date for WLV. We were lucky and got it, and she just transferred all our info to the new reservation and cancelled the old one. Quick and painless!

Remember that you can also buy sold-out resorts directly from DVC. If you're open to any use year, you can get on a waitlist for your initial purchase. It may even be possible to immediately buy BWV if they have the available points if that is what you want instead of SSR.
