We are looking at switching at the 7 month to another resort. Is there anyway to do this with the new online system? Or would calling member services be that better option?

I assume you have to cancel the first one and then book the second, hoping it doesn't disappear out from under you.

Any advice?

This would be the only way to do it using the on-line reservation system if you need to free up the points first.

i just went through this and my first reservation was cancelled and the new reservation was not "held" it was lost as they were taking my information. i asked to speak to a supervisor because i was naturally upset and there was nothing that they could do, they told me they could not give me a room they did not have, period. so now we are waitlisted. please know that yes you can lose the reservation in the meantime.

What about if you have other points that you could use to make the new reservation - can they be switched out afterwards?

Here's a scenario - you make a reservation at your home resort at 11 months out with banked points. At 7 months, you make a new reservation where you'd rather stay using current points. You then cancel the first reservation. So now you have a reservation using current points, and your banked points are put back in your account. Can you ask MS to just switch out which points were used for the reservation, so that the banked points get used?

Most MS CM's DO NOT have the ability to hold inventory as they rebook, there is a system limitation so only the top tier CM's have this ability.

I have discussed this issue with Disney Management at length after we also lost our reservation. Once they cancel the reservation and leave the screen, the inventory is released.

lol, i wish i had banked points! :goodvibes no i use all my points up!

good suggestions though. it's a bummer that it happens. takes a just a few minutes to go through online and do the cancel-switch & yet, never fails, I lose the new res. try it through ms, and whoop, same thing, bummer. so waitlist support group, here i come...

Some CMs can definitely hold inventory. Some can't. I've experienced both. I had one CM tell me flat out "There's one room left, and I'm holding it for you" while I asked a couple questions about our points. Then yesterday, I saw a 1 BR standard view available at BLT for our April trip, and had to call so they could switch some points around. Again, 1 room left, and the CM was NOT holding it as she was muttering for her computer to "hurry". Luckily the room was still there when she was finished.

Yes, you can call MS and ask them to "reallocate" the points used for the reservation. You can't do this for reservations made at the 11-month window to change to different resort points, but you can do it for current-to-banked points. I did it earlier this week.

We got our Grand Villa for Memorial Day week at the 7 month window! I did have to cancel the first reservation (not enough points for two). But it worked!
We did it online at 8:05 right on the 7 month.

Thanks for the advice.

So tell me if this is right, I make a reservation at my home resort at 11 months but then decide I want to stay at another resort at 7 months, I need to cancel the reservation at my home resort before I can book another resort at 7 months? Thanks

Correct, unless you have enough points to book the new one first.

Pay attention to your UY and the status of the points that you are using and how the reservation date may affect your point usage.

There is also a slight possibility that by the time you book the new reservation, the inventory may be taken by someone else.
