Ok, I hope this isn't a totally stupid question.... We have ressies for August, and have decided that we want to try a split stay. We are booked in at BLT, and really want to try AK too.

So, 1. we want to change the last couple of days from BLT to AK ( Assuming there are rooms available at AK obviously)

2. Add on a couple of days at AK

We have enough points in our account (without having to borrow for the reservation that we want).

My question is this - when I call MS can I check to make sure there is room at AK and book the dates I want, and then cancel BLT without having to get into borrowing points from the next year? I've read that you can't have more than 1 reservation at a time, so I wasn't sure if this classified as that, or if I need to access the points in order to book. I am sure that lots of people book at their home resort at 11 months, and then try to change at 7????

Thanks - I think I might be over-thinking the whole thing, and that I can probably just call MS say that I want to book at AK , have them check, and then tell them how I want the reservation changed????:confused3

We often do what you are describing. Its a little different than what some people do with cash ressies - book another ressie before canceling another.

In essence, at the 7 month window, call and tell MS what you want to do and they can change the reservation for you and adjust point usage accordingly.

Keep in mind that if you borrowed points for your initial ressie, you cannot "unborrow" them, so you will have to use them for your new ressie first.

If your choice is not available at the 7 month window, you can always go on the waitlist. if something opens up, they will make the reservation for you, adjusting points as necessary.

Also - you can have more than one ressie at a time, you just dont need to do that for what you are describing.

yes. they will check availability and if available, they can cancel the last few nighs at BLT and then book AKV with those pts. (there is a small chance that they will lose the AKV reservation if it was the last room available...it has happened but it is rare.)

yep.

If you have the points to book AKV, without borrowing, before cancelling the nights at BLT, you can do that.

For the names, just book the new nights in your DH's name only (if there is a problem) and then cancel BLT. Once canceled, add back all the names.

Cancelling and re-booking can be a bit scary and as PP mentioned, there are rare times when you could lose both. We had that happen last summer when trying to book BLT. I even asked how many rooms at BWV (what we were giving up) were left. In the 30 seconds we cancelled and tried to re-book BLT, not only did the BLT room get taken, so did all 4 of the BWV rooms.

Luckily, I WL'd and got the room back the next day, but it could have ended up badly.

Good luck!

Just thought I would update - I called MS today, and had no problem getting into AK for the end of our trip. I just explained what I wanted, they checked to make sure that AK was available and did it all in one transaction.

I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to get what I wanted, or that I would end up losing both as Sandisw talked about. Now we get to try AK:)
