Changing Reservation

It depends on whether there is a change in the number of points used and when you make that change (for DVC resorts). If you make the change 30 or more days in advance there is no penalty at all. If it is within 30 days and the number of points you use stays the same or goes up- there is no penalty. If the number of points you use goes down than the extra points automatically go into a holding account that expires at the end of the current use year. Holding account points can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of the stay.

If you change the dates on a nonDVC stay- such as the Disney collection in addition to the point rules above you have to pay a new $95 transation fee.

If you are an owner, generally yes but (as stated above) it really depends on what you are trying to do, when you are trying to do it & the specifics of your acount (i.e., UY, banked/borrowed points, etc.).

If you are a renter, it really doesn't matter what DVC rules are, it's about what was agreed to between the owner & renter.

Are you getting conflicting info from MS? :confused3

Thanks! I am going to try to book today for January. If we don't go in January we will go in May, so the points would go up for May as opposed to January. I just didn't want to get penalized additional points for this!

Very simply:

As long as you cancel a reservation at least 31 days prior to arrival, the points go back into your account with no restrictions on re-use. If you aren't past your banking deadline, you can bank them.

If you cancel 30 days or less prior to arrival, the points still go back into your account, but there will be restrictions on how you may use them.

DVC does not charge "extra" points for canceling a reservation.

As long as you cancel the January trip at least 31 days in advance, you will be able to immediately book the May trip (subject to availability of course) with those points.

If you cancel the January trip with less than 31 days, then you would only be able to book the May trip 60 days out as your points would now be holding points.

What is your use year? If it's Feb, March or April, you could run into issues if the points are borrowed for Jan or if it's too late to bank. If it's June-December you would still be in the same use year so no problem if you change 31 days or more before check-in.
