Changing reservation online.

I'm currently booked at OKW, my home resort, for New Years Eve - Jan 4th. I have waitlists and I've been looking online for other locations. I'm traveling solo and would prefer a location with a bed and pull out sofa to OKW with the 2 beds. I know finding something is a long shot. Assuming something comes up, I don't have enough current points to reserve the new room before canceling the old, I've also purchased the DDP for the trip. Would it be best to go through MS to swap rooms around, or is there a way to do it online? I don't want to lose my existing reservation to get the new one.
 
You run the risk of losing the room either way. Not all MS Advisor's have the ability to hold inventory while making the switch.

You should probably call MS to modify or change your original reservation if you don't have enough points to make the new reservation before canceling the old one. I know it's a pain and that you should be able to cancel the first and then immediately make the second. Every time I've asked MS that question they have told me that you can only make and delete reservations on the website. Any modifications have to be done by calling them.
 
Thanks, that's what I thought. I was hoping someone had found a work around. I've got one additional question. When the website shows a room as available, does it "hold" the room for any length of time or can someone come in and reserve it out from under you?
 

The computer will hold it for 20 minutes before its put back into inventory.

It shows that it is held for 20 minutes. However, did a cancel/rebook as I watched the screen above it showed the holding for 20 minutes above. Proceeded to the next screen to fill in information, etc. When I got to confirmation page, there was an error message. I called MS to find out status as I completed the entire process, filled in the guests name, used the contracts to book reservations and could not see the confirmed reservation. I was told by a supervisor that the screen does not guarantee the inventory and the room was picked up by someone else or a waitlist.
