Changing Rental Driver Name

I have an Avis rental reserved and prepaid using a third party site. I put my DH as the primary driver, using my credit card. It looks like he will not be able to join us at the start of the trip due to work obligations. In reaching out to the third party, I was advised changing the primary driver name would require an amendment to the reservation and a re-quote. As our arrival day is tomorrow, the rate I was quoted is $2K. What is the likelihood that I will be allowed without penalty to change the primary driver to myself at the counter?

Can anyone share a similar experience?

Yes, I do see the Avis confirmation number in the email.

I haven't had personal experience, but based on the Avis website, the reservation holder must pick up the car:

I would recommend trying (quickly) to modify the reservation here:

It didn’t ask for additional driver names when I made the reservation (or at least I didn’t see it anyways), but the rate I have, includes a spouse as an additional driver at no charge.

The chat option was down but I was able to get the name changed by calling Avis. My DH just had to verbally approve the modification. I didn’t think they’d allow me to change anything as the third party is still the holder of the reservation but it’s done and I can see it. Phew!
