Changing point charts...

I know that Easter week is changed on the charts each year, but I'm curious...
Only once has DVC changed the rest of the chart and that was for OKW in the beginning, correct?
What happened?
Did the members have to vote on it or can DVC do this on their own?
I'm wondering cause I think we've decided to get on the waitlist for an add on at VWL and I was thinking about 70 points to cover a 5 night stay in the summer in a studio.
I saw on another thread someone mention the charts being able to be changed so that the weekend points weren't as high and it was more across the board all week. This would make the weekday points higher and would screw things up I'm assuming for many who bought the exact amount of points to cover certain days.
Could this be a possibility, changing the charts?
Any thoughts? Should we go ahead with the 70 or would another number be better?
Thanks!

The total number of points for each resort can not change, the only thing that can change is rearranging them. I believe if they DID make a change, it would be minimal, like it was at OKW. I would not worry about it.

70 is the number of points we did for our addon. We wanted to make sure we covered the five nights in a studio in the summer or a 2 bedroom every 3 years. It seemed like this number worked for other possible scenarios too. Good luck with the waitlist!

Thanks. Do you remember what was the change at OKW?

In 1996, the OKW point chart was changed so that weekends were lowered and weekdays were raised for a couple of "seasons". This did affect our needs, so we added on to meet our needs.

Since that time, no changes have been made to any point charts, but DVC can do so without any comment/agreement from the members.

DVC actually has an obligation to the membership to encourage optimal utilization of the facilities and point reallocation is a prime means to accomplish that goal.

Could it happen again?? Yes. Is it likely to change anytime soon?? IMO, no. (If it were a real concern, the points could have been modified as each subsequent resort was added. The apparent changes in this regard for SSR are an example of such change, but even there, the change was cosmetic, IMO.)

OKW studio in December was 6 points now it is 8 points - so I would not expect any great change - making all the points the same would be a very great change.

kept in mind that if something is not taken by members at the 60 day point - CRO gets it and they generally do not have that much trouble renting weekends.

now some posters (I did not stay members) will occassionally say that DVC will do that - make all the points the same - but don't buy it - the other timeshares are going toward what DVC is during - not the the other way around.

what the members don't use - CRO can generally rent.

As to a change I think that is why the DVC points for 2005 have not been posted as yet.

I would not be surprised to see Thanksgiving by itself - and the points higher - but DVC must lower something else - last time it was summer (to your benefit) and Easter/Christmas.

Thanksgiving week - it is a great time to go - the weather is much better than the summer and the crowds are little lower - points are much lower (well they are now) - and at the end of the week - the Christmas decorations are up.

Most of the kids get out the whole week - kids not teachers. they use to only get out 2 or 3 days - so if enough school are now declaring this a free week - I think DVC will change it - it is just a question of when.

When are the charts typically released?
I wonder if they woudl let me see a 2005 point chart before I add on so I know what to buy...:p

My dd's school still only has a 3 day Thanksgiving vacation. :(

It was told that they must come out soon - the member's guide book are surposed to be shipped in Sept.

So call you guide and ask them what the 2005 points are going to be at your DVC resort.

I think last year (okay my memory may not be perfect) it was in the summer. like in july or june???? for the 2004 points - it might have been sooner.

I seem to remember 18 months before they are needed???? anyone else remember this or is my memory that bad.

So January 2005 is 18 months before June 2003 - so I think they are late this year. Kept in mind that you can make reservations for January,2005 in February of 2004 so that is not as much time as it appears.
