Changing package to room only reservation?

Does anyone know if it is possible to change a Disneyland package(room & tickets) to a room only one? I have 2 bedroom family suite booked for the holidays as a package with tickets. My Mom mentioned a few days ago she would love to gift us the tickets as a Christmas present which is amazing! I know she could just make a payment on the reservation, but would really like to avoid that for a few reasons. #1 she is just very particular about things like that and likes to buy things herself. She has always been pretty anti gift card or anything like that growing up, so I was shocked she even offered this. I imagine she is planning to 'print something' and put it in another type of package. #2 I would rather her not know what we are paying  but it's not a huge deal but still.

I notice on the website the room is sold out, so I don't think we could just make another reservation & I don't want to lose it. Can they just change it and we just put down the remaining amount for the room only without completely canceling? I was planning on calling but wanted to see if anyone knew by chance.

What a nice gift that your mom is offering. My mother would have a stroke if she knew what we paid for Disney Vacations. See if the reservation is still available when you are not logged into your Disney account. It is quite sophisticated now so people don't downgrade to a cheaper room at the same hotel for the same dates. However, I believe that the packages are billed to your CC on the day you make the reservation and the tickets can't be refunded.

Yes! It is very sweet of her even more so because we are doing it over the holidays. She is from Southern CA & growing up I wasn't really allowed to watch TV -- but I was allowed to watch Disney! She was a pass holder while we lived there and brought me to DL & it probably is one of my favorite childhood memories.

BUT like your Mom she would freakout if she saw what we were spending. She knows DL is expense & much like the rest of us understand the 'Disney tax' She has many times talked about how she hopes locals(and even non locals) can still get to experience DL because it is so special even if it is 1 time. With that said never stayed on site & even I realize it is kinda crazy. It's a very special trip so that is one reason we are going all out but still would rather keep that $$$ tag away from here!

I will try to go ingontio mode! Maybe it will let me book that way, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is sold out also. I just was hoping they could 'modify' it without canceling.

Generally going from a package to room only means cancelling and rebooking. Fine if the room you have booked is available. Not fine if it is sold out.

If it is sold out but your mom still wants to give you the tickets, could you just tell her the price of the tickets (you should be able to find that even if you have to do a mock booking) and she gives you a gift card in that amount?

Edit - sorry, just saw that she hates gift cards. Unfortunately if your room type is sold out I don’t think there is another option.

That is what I’m worried about and don’t want to lose the room 😢 I was hoping maybe they would be able to just adjust it.

I canceled my package (a sold out room category) and my room reappeared as able to book on the website. Obviously not guaranteed this will happen for you but, might be worth a gamble?

Call reservations and see if you can make it a "ticketless" package (you can do that at WDW)...

I’m not sure that’s correct. A package requires $200 down payment and as long as you cancel more than 30 days out you’ll get 100% of your money back.

Oops didn’t realize this was D-Land
