i know this is a stupid question...but next time we go to disney, we are taking our nan of 87...., and the idea was, that we were going to hire a wheel chair for her...dragging her around in all that heat's not fair!.

but, as you probably know, when you go to discovery cove, you have to swap wheelchairs in order to enter the sand by the dolphin lagoon

my question, is there anyway we can hire a wheelchair, that can travel on the sand, and around the theme parks such as universal?. she's never been to wdw, and we want to make this trip as stressfull as possible

That's a good question. I really don't know of any w/c's that do double duty on land and sand. The ones that go on sand have really wide tires and are very difficult to push on any surface *but* sand. I think if you already are renting a manual chair for the week and Discovery Cove lets you park it while you use their free sand w/c's then that would be the best option, as long as she can transfer from chair to chair. Sounds like you have a lovely trip planned!---Kathy

thanks cathy, does look like it's the only way forward...anyone else want to suggest?

I'm going to second Kathy's suggestion and say change out. If she's able to stand for a few moments (which I'm guessing she is) changing chairs is really not that hard. You can park one close to the other, either at 90 degrees to one another, or facing each other (you may need to flip the footplates out of the way for both of these), then she can stand, twist and sit in the new one.

I hope you don't want to make the trip stressful! :scared1: :rotfl: ;)

Have a brilliant trip! :goodvibes

I agree.
you would not want to have a sand wheelchair for regular use. Besides being made for pushing in sand, the large tires make it hard to transport anywhere. Those sand wheelchairs also don't usually fold and I don't think you could find a place to rent one, aside from beach/sand areas.

in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there is a link to information about Discovery Cove. I think you can probably find a phone number or email to contact someone there.
