So I currently have a weeks worth of reservations booked at restaurants for 3 people but I need to add a forth. It was an unexpected addition. I try to update it online but it says unavailable. I would think going from 3 to 4 would be easy. Does anyone know if I call I would have better luck?

Well, if you call you certainly won't have worse luck. So what do you have to lose?

Some restaurants actually do have tables for three. Are you clicking on the “modify” button or searching for a whole new reservation?

I know that this doesn't help the OP, but here is a suggestion that we always use (and I'm sure the boy/girl scouts will flame me). If you have an odd number in your "natural group" and you think that there is any chance that you will need an extra seat, book your table at the outset for the next highest even number. For all of this consternation and teeth grinding over trying to bump 3 people up to 4 at the last minute (or even weeks in advance) and then facing the wrath of the restaurant staff when you have the audacity to try to get a table for an extra person, never, ever has it happened that if you booked for 4 people but only showed up with 3 that there has been a problem or an issue.
  • Book for 3 people and try to get a table for 4--Trouble in River City.
  • Book for 4 people and show up with only 3--Right this way!
We are a family of 3 and for many years I had a brother who worked at WDW who wanted to join us for dinners as often as his schedule would allow. But he never knew in advance which dinners that might be. So I always booked tables for 4. 75% of the time we showed up just as 3 people and 25% of the time we showed up as 4. And 100% of the time we never had an issue with the restaurant staff for showing up with a number that didn't match our ADR. But had we reversed this and booked tables for 3 and tried to show up as a 4, the same would not have been the case.

1) True.
2) If you are slated for such a table, you MUST change the reservation or someone will be outside watching you eat.
3) If you have a ressie at a 4-top, there might only be a small issue in adding a fourth. (Fire Dept occupancy limits)
