I got married last fall, and have changed my last name on almost everything. I might be selling my car this fall, and realized I never changed the name on my car title. I checked the IL state website and it was rather unclear what I have to do. Anyone here ever change their name on a car title in IL?

Here's what you need to do. Go to your nearest vehicle office and fill out 2 forms: VSD-330 Application for a Vehicle Title AND VSD-190 Vehicle Title and Registration. It'll cost you $68 to process it but they should be able to accept the forms and payment at the vehicle/license office. Or you can mail it to:

Secretary of State
Vehicle Services Department
501 S. 2nd. St., Room 014
Springfield, IL 62756

They have a toll free number 1-(800) 252-8980 to use for questions. You may be able to get them to mail you the forms, but that could take awhile.

Thanks! There's a dmv 10 minutes from where I work, so I can pick up the forms (and submit them) with no trouble. I just couldn't figure out what I needed!

You may also want to talk to someone to see if you need to change it over. We bought a car from a friend and the title was still in her maiden name.

FYI>>> not sure if you have to...it seemed like a lot of hassle after I got married (also in IL) and we got busy, moving, etc, I never got around to it. When we sold it to carmax, I asked ahead, and they said I could just sign both names (or just old name, I don't remember) to sell it and turn it over. Saved some time.
