Changing existing reservation to use points from a different contract

I booked a reservation in October at BLT for September 2022 with my existing contract(BLT Feb use year). I had purchased and closed on a 50 point contract(BLT Feb use year) in late September 2021. The 50 point contract came with 50 banked points. I usually bank the few existing points I have left around this time of the year. When I went into the website to do it I noticed that all points came out of my original contract but for the new contract it is saying I can only bank the 50 points from this use year. When I booked it I asked to use all the points from the new contract first. This was not done and now I have 50 points that are going to expire at the end of 2022. Is this something member services can fix for me? Has this happened to anyone else and what have they done?

MS can fix. Also, you might try a medication again. If you have two or more contracts and there are banked points, the system is supposed to take banked points first, regardless of whether that contract is listed first.

Often, however, you get a false take initially. You designate contracts to use and then reserve, and the next page incorreclty shows that points were used only in the order of the contracts listed and thus banked points are not shown as being taken. However, if you continue doing the modification -- confirming the reservation given and guests, etc.-- and finally get to the very last page that confirms the reservation and shows how points were actually taken, it will show that points were actually taken properly, using any banked points first. If that did not happen with your reservation, you can call MS and have it done properly.

Computers are very good at incomprehensibly changing your words when you have spell check. Yes, I meant modification.

I was happily surprised when what you describe did happen on one of my recent bookings! The very last page was correct!:)

I guess the way to look at this is to recognize that, as usual, DVC IT created a major glitch in its onsite reservation system, but, as is unusual (since glitches are often not fixed at all), it purposefully created a new glitch (the correction at the end) to rectify the problem.

Hope you weren't offended. I just couldn't resist. This one was indeed quite special. :teeth:

We've all been victims of auto-correct's "I know better" arrogance, LOL.

There was no offense, I really liked your post. I am forever amazed at some of the words I end up with in my posts edited by a computer system that does not actually know the word that was intended, and does not ask if the correction is correct.

I'm going to hijack this thread a little since a little light bulb went off while reading it... Let's say you had 2 contracts, say BLT and SSR, could you book BLT at 11 months with the BLT points and then modify the reservation to have it use the SSR points at the 7 month mark instead?

Nope. You can’t use non home resort points in a reservation that was booked during home resort priority.

The only exception is if there is still some availability for the nights and your second contract has banked points.

In that case it will. But the BLT contract will be locked and therefore still need to be used first.

Now what I have been able to do is book nights at the beginning or end with my non home resort points and then shorten my original to slowly get things swapped out.

I have been fortunate to be able to do that quite a few times which has been a nice way to swap within the rules.
