Changing Dining Reservation's Number of Guests

Can I still do this? Last trip I was able to change the number of guests on 1 of my dining reservations to a lesser number by calling... without changing the confirmation number or having to look for availability.

On our next trip, I'm planning on 5 people but there's a chance 1 of them might not be able to go.... so I'm hoping to make ADRs for 5 people and call later to change it if I have to.

Im honestly not sure how easy it is for the CM on the phone to change the amount of ppl on your ADR?? You can always call and ask. I would be tempted to just leave it at 5 if you find out that its a huge hassle. Lol. What i mean is, lets say the CM looks for another ADR for 4 but cant find any, and lets say theyre not able to modify it down to 4 without having to cancel the ADR, then what? your stuck right? In that situation i'd just leave it at 5. Lol. I dunno, maybe someone else can give us better info? Im curious about this too. Its a great question!

And btw, even with ADRs that require a cc#, I was told by others than if 4 ppl show up instead of 5, they will NOT charge your card $10. But again, who knows right?

im wondering the same thing because i'm making all my ADR's for 6 but i know my parents won't be going for the whole trip and they won't decide until closer to july

When planning one of our last trips... I couldn't get an ADR for 3 people using the online system... but I was able to get an ADR for a larger number 4 or 5 people.... then I called the dining reservation phone number and asked them to change it to 3 people. They seemed able to do it when reducing the number but not increasing it....not sure if that little trick still works or not.
