Changing Diapers while at the parks

When mine were in diapers, I used to change them in the stroller if the restroom was crowded or the changing table was obviously dirty. But, I always pushed them into a restroom and positioned myself out of the way. I will say that the baby care centers (if one is nearby) were always clean and quiet. I used those when I was nearby.

When my son was 2, we changed his diaper everywhere in WDW (not in a crowd, of course). I even learned to change wet diapers with him standing up. 1,2,3 - done and off to another attraction.

Eventhough Disney keeps the restroom relatively clean, you don't know who was on it last. Stay clean and away from parade type crowds.

But there are spots out of the way that it wouldn't bother anyone.
and try to be descreet
some spots that come to mind..
-there's a real quiet trail between toontown and Tomorrowland.
-down one of the side streets of main st maybe.

Heck one time at that trail we saw an adult woman changing clothes there.
Not just adjusting...full blown waredrobe change.

Now I realize alot has changed since our now 21 yo had to be changed, but, we had a changing pad that we kept in his diaper bag so that we could lay that down on changing tables.
That way, we kept him off the table, but we also changed him in the appropriate place, with proper disposal facilities.

I never once used a diaper changing table in a public restroom, I always used my stroller and changing pad when out and about and then washed my hands/used hand sanitizer. Just be discreet and quick about it so you don't bug others.

Our son was just over two and I don't think we changed his diapers at all in a diaper changing station. We had our double graco stroller with us. I'd find a secluded spot, turn the stroller away from people, lay the back down and pull the shade down. I'd be surprised if anyone even noticed what the heck we were doing.

I don't think it is a big deal at all to change in a stroller as long as you aren't doing it on a bunch in front of people.

This is exactly what I do in our doupble stoller, too! Have for all three kids and it always works out for me! If I have to use a changing table I just put a blanket down first.

We had used the restrooms for the changing tables. We usually have a changing pad or a towel to put on the changing table in the restrooms. I have never been to the restroom where it was not clean. Also the baby care center tables are cleaned after every use and they have paper that is put on the changing table for the use.

For me it does not bother me if you find someplace quiet to change a daiper, but I can understand people that feel that restrooms are a better place to take care of business.

I was wondering about that.

I always feel that some things are just taken for granted. I was about to mention that too, but then figured, everyone takes care of clean-up--no need to mention.

Hmm, we always just used whatever was closest - CS tables, park benches, queue lines, ride seats, etc.... Whatever was the most convenient for us. We also usually just left the dirty diaper at the spot too. Nothing worse than having to lug around a dirty diaper with you. Better to just let some good Samaritan take care of it for you. Or even better a Cast Member, after all that is their job isn't it?

Like others have said, as long as you are discreet about it (and clean up after yourself), then I don't think most people would have a problem with it. We also carried a small portable changing mat with us.

I have germ issues, so I always carry hand sanitizer with me, no matter where I go. So, that is a given for me.

I'd say the baby care centers were my favorite places for changing diapers, but sometimes the diaper needs to be changed ASAP and you aren't going to tote the kid across the park to a baby care center. Then I did the old out of the way stroller diaper change. I always carry plastic bags to tie the stinky diaper up in and chuck it into a bathroom trash can. Of course, with diaper changes, you have wipes handy, so I used one of those and some sanitizer for my hands. Wet diapers? Standing in a stall is a perfect solution for those!

The changing tables in the bathrooms are OK (many are made of stainless steel), but sometimes there is a line for them, sometimes they aren't the right size, and sometimes it is just more convenient to change the kid in the comfort and privacy of their own stroller.

If the changing tables are unfit for use, it's because some other parent left it that way when they changed their child.

Why would they leave it in an unfit state? Do they think they are the only parents of diaper wearing children at WDW?

I think as long as the diaper is not stinky the go ahead and find an out of the way place and change away. But if it is a nasty diaper you really need to take care of that in a restroom. Not only so you have water and soap available, but so that someone strolling by is not subjected to the smell. Unless you go to Disney World during a seriously slow time of year, there will always be one or two people around you.

I have never used a changing table either. I am skeeved by them as well.

I have used our stroller. We always found and out of the way spot and were as discreet as we could be.

I, too, get skeeved by the fold-down diaper stations in public restrooms. When I absolutely have no choice but to use them I always wipe them down with Clorox antibacterial wipes. Thinking logically about this, changing tables are non-porous and so they should be more sanitary (after you've wiped them down), than a stroller. Poop/pee/bacteria can work itself into the fabric of the stroller. Yuk!

The baby care centers at WDW are fantastic. They are staffed with someone who constantly cleans up the area and replaces the sanitary paper. The changing tables at the baby care center aren't all skeevy like the ones in public bathrooms (I'm speeking about public bathrooms in general, not specifically the ones at Disney).

Hand sanitizer is fine and all, but it's not the same as hand-washing. Hand sanitizer kills some "germs" on your hands, but it doesn't magically get rid of that invisible layer of poop and pee on your hands. "Stuff" transfers through wipes. And the moisture in the wipe helps facilitate the transfer of "stuff" onto your hands, even though you can't really see it. It should go without saying, but make sure you wash your hands after changing your child's diaper, whereever you change it.

at Target in the travel section they have travel sized Clorox wipes and in the check out stand they have mini bottles of clorox spray. If you think the changing tables are ick just wait til he is potty training and thinks its good to hang on to the edges of the seat while he sits there and he wantsto touch everything in the stall. at least the tables skeeve enough people out they aren't used as much therefore less germs right? the toilets are used by everyone over age 2 finally my kids are old enough to know not to TOUCH everything

I hate public changing tables too!!

BUT....

I have to say that the changing tables at the baby care stations are fabulous. They are large, clean tables, and you are provided with a large sheet of paper to use as a pad liner for changing. The baby never touches anything besides the paper. Oh yeah, it's air conditioned too, which is nice when babies need a break from the heat!

Another "standing change" family here. Before we could do this we did a partner change kind of thing. This was when my mother would hold the baby with her arms underneath the baby from the shoulders down to the hips so her legs and bottom were kind of hanging and I would hold the feet and diaper. It works well with a wet diaper Can you tell that I would do pretty much anything to avoid a public changing table?
