I was thinking of changing my tickets to go earlier to Florida. The fare is cheaper than I had originally paid. I understand I would have to pay a $50 fee to change but what about the cheaper rate for the flight? Would I get a refund for that?

We switched our flights from Sunday 4/23 to Thursday 4/20 and our new tickets were a less expensive fare since we added a Sat night stay. We had to pay the $50 fee and Delta kept the fare difference! Let's hope that $ is somewhere in a karma bank for us and they keep flying for a few more weeks!

The same thing happened to me with USAir when I changed a trip from Disneyland to Disney World, except it was a $100 fee. My old fare was $314 (PIT/LAX), the new one was $294 (PIT/MCO), I had to pay $100 and they kept the $20 difference.

I called Delta and they said it would be $94.00 pp. A $50 change fee plus an extra $44.00. I thought the fare was lower (I bought a RT ticket originally) but this is the way they calculated it. My original RT ticket was $285, what I saw was a one-way for $129.00 so I figured it wouldnt cost me more than the $50 fee. I guess I was wrong.
